Along the Essex Coastal Scenic Byway
Tour d'Elegance Debuts Along the Byway
The scenic byway will be the setting for the inaugural Tour d'Elegance. Slated for Saturday, July 27, 2013, many of New England's finest classic cars will drive a 40-mile coastal route from Newburyport to Beverly. The tour is organized as part of the Misselwood Concours d'Elegance, the region's premier boutique car show held at the Misselwood estate of Endicott College. Learn more! The former Chadwick Lead Mills property - a stunning green space spanning Salem and Marblehead at the mouth of the Forest River - has long been identified as a prime candidate for conservation by Greenbelt, municipal leaders and community conservation activists. The effort to permanently protect this waterfront landscape took several critical steps forward this spring. Read more. |

Photo Contest Deadline Extended!
Deadline for submission: November 1, 2012
We are extending our deadline to allow for a few more submissions. The photos thus far are amazing. You still have time! All  photographers are invited to submit images to Essex Heritage's 2012 Photo Contest. Photographs must be taken within the Heritage Area and represent one of this year's three contest categories: "Images of the Essex National Heritage Area", "The Merrimack Valley" or "In Town/Downtown."
Sponsored by the Essex National Heritage Commission, Hunt's Photo & Video and the Merrimack Valley Planning Commission, the 2012 Photo Contest will award 10-13 prizes to photographers. Shoot, Enter, and Win! Find out more. |

We are so thankful for the generosity of our Corporate Members. Businesses who believe in our mission, and as public funding decreases, they have increased their support of Essex Heritage so that we can fund programs to conserve endangered historic sites, build trails for recreation and health, employ under-served youth in heritage preservation jobs, support after-school enrichment for Latino students, and lead our coastal communities in developing cultural tourism along the new Essex Coastal Scenic Byway.

Volunteer Opportunities in the Heritage Area
Salem, The House of Seven Gables
October volunteers! The House of Seven Gables is looking for volunteers to help with Theatrical Performances on weekend nights, concierges for the visitor center, ticket checkers, and to help line up groups during the day. For more information please email them.
Protect the River: River Cleanup Oct. 13, 11-2.
The MRWC is hosting a river cleanup at Moseley Woods Park, and Plum Island, Newburyport as part of COASTSWEEP. Dress for the weather, gloves and trash bags provided. For more information contact Caroly Shumway 978-655-4742 or Kate Yeomans 978-463-2233. Please let them know if you are coming!
