Partnership Grant Spotlights: Thacher Island Association
Thacher Island Association has recently completed a project to improve the interpretative center on the island. The project was funded, in part, by a 2008 Essex Heritage Partnership Grant. Just off the coast of Rockport, this special island is worth a visit. The island is home to twin light towers, and the Cape Ann Light Station, a National Historic Landmark. Thacher Island chronicles our maritime past through interpretive exhibits at their visitor center. In addition, the island is home to scenic trails, a cemetery, and cobbled beaches. Although owned by the Town of Rockport, the South Tower is still actively used and maintained by the US Coast Guard. Visitors are welcome July-August. For a real adventure, make reservations for a boat ride, spend the night and see Boston like you never have before! For more information click here... Gloucester Maritime Heritage Center "Fish & Ships" celebrates the sea and how it has defined the lives and culture of this region. A collaborative project between the Gloucester Maritime Heritage Center, Schooner Adventure, Essex Shipbuilding Museum and Cape Ann Museum this interpretive brochure is one of the latest completed projects, funded in part through the Essex Heritage Partnership Grant program.
