Greetings!
It's summer, and a bronzed glow is a look that many of us crave. But at what cost? According to experts there is "no such thing as a healthy tan"... until now. BodyLase offers an alternative to the damage that tanning beds cause your skin. It is possible to achieve a suntan glow with self-tanners and bronzers available at both BodyLase locations.
Tanning Beds Aren't Worth the Skin Cancer Risk
The light bulbs in tanning beds work by releasing ultraviolet (UV) radiation that damages the DNA in your skin cells. When your skin is exposed to UV rays, it reacts by producing more pigment which gradually darkens the skin and makes it appear tan. The skin cells need to work to repair the damage caused by UV rays. However, the skin's attempt to repair DNA isn't always successful and it is the damaged DNA that can mutate and raise your risk of developing skin cancer.
There are two types of UV rays, UVA and UVB, and both can lead to skin cancer. However, tanning beds release mostly UVA rays which permeate the skin even more deeply than UVB rays. UVA rays are more likely to cause signs of premature aging such as sun spots, wrinkles, and 'leathery' skin and are highly linked to skin cancer.
How to get a "safe" tan
BodyLase offers sunless tanning lotions and bronzers that can be applied for a natural looking, temporary tan without increasing your risk of skin cancer or damage to your skin. Many of these products contain sunscreen which offers additional protection. So if you are looking for a healthy summer glow, opt for self-tanners or bronzers instead of tanning beds - you'll be glad you did!
