 August 2012

Greetings,

Labor Day weekend is fast approaching and it is hard to believe summer has almost passed. I hope you have enjoyed the beauty and joys of our islands during the warm weather. Grab a precious moment soon to explore the beach, visit a farm, shop locally or walk in the woods. I am so grateful to live here!

Celebrate Community Sept. 8th
Join the celebrations on Saturday, Sept. 8th at the Admiralty Head Lighthouse at Fort Casey State Park and Good Cheer Food Bank and Garden at Bayview.

The Lighthouse is sporting a new historically accurate lantern created by local high school metal students. This was done through a remarkable partnership of private and public support. The dedication ceremony begins at 11 am.

Later that day Good Cheer will celebrate its 50th anniversary feeding our community. The Harvest Festival runs from 2pm-5pm at the Food Bank.

Volunteer Opportunities Abound

Citizen advisory committees are important to our County government. Currently there are various openings available. Please check out the details on our website. Here are two for your consideration:

Ferry Advisory Committee

This committee is the local voice on ferry issues to lawmakers in Olympia and the Washington State Ferry System. It is a six member group, three for the Clinton ferry and three for the Coupeville ferry.

Noxious Weed Board

This important volunteer board is made up of citizens from

each area of the County. The board meets quarterly and now has openings for Central and South Whidbey.  Please consider serving your community in this way and contact Janet Stein for details.

Farm Tour
Don't miss the 7th Annual Farm Tour Sept. 15-16th
Here is a link to the map for all the locations. Start where you want and go at your own pace. Free, educational and fun for the whole family!
County Budget Process Begins

An overview of the budgets from appointed department heads, presented at our August 27 roundtable meeting, is available via on-line video or by contacting our office.

Please feel free to contact me anytime with ideas, questions or concerns.

It is an honor to serve you,
