Pertussis Epidemic in Washington State
Whooping Cough (Pertussis) in Washington State is reaching epidemic levels. This can be fatal to young children. Please check with your health care provider about updating your vaccine.
The Tdap booster vaccine is very important for everyone who will have contact with new infants, especially pregnant women, family members, and health care workers.

Conservation Futures Feedback
At yesterday's work session it was suggested that the Board do some outreach to our community about the value of the Conservation Futures Program. For a bit of background, it is a local levy fund which was established about 20 years ago to provide for preservation of open space, forest and agricultural lands in Island County. It has been used to preserve the Greenbank Farm, the Outdoor Classroom and farmland in Ebey's Reserve, to name a few. About $700,000 is collected annually and the average property is assessed about $14/year to fund this program. I welcome your feedback on this program. |
