2012 Skate Canada Adult Figure Skating Championships
April 6-8, 2012
Section skaters headed to Charlottetown, P.E.I. in early April to compete at the 2012 Skate Canada Adult Figure Skating Championships. Catherine Taylor (Calalta SC), Joan McGrath (Calalta SC), Kami Harney (Fort Smith SC), Dawn Jorawsky (Okotoks SC), and the Edmonton Northern Lites (Figure 8 SC) competed at the National Championships.
Edmonton Northern Lites - 5th in Adult SYS III Synchronized Skating
Catherine Taylor - Bronze (Into Women Interpretive I & II)
Joan McGrath - Silver (Bronze Women Interpretive III & IV)
Kami Harney - 5th (Silver Women Freeskate I)

Edson Figure Skating Club
The Edson Figure Skating Club titled their club carnival BeatlesMania, where skaters had the opportunity to showcase their hard work throughout the year. Myla Isherwood performed her freeskate solo to "Here Comes the Sun" and is pictured doing her spirals. |

The Stacey Levitt Women and Sport Memorial Scholarship, valued at $2,500, is awarded annually to a young woman, a girls' team, or a sport organization that exemplify Stacey's ideals and qualities. Congratulations Ashley Wohlgemuth of the Grovedale Figure Skating Club! Ashley is a great role model and her passion for skating is seen in her volunteer activities as a Program Assistant for CanSkate and CanPowerSkate. Ashley also trains with the STARSkate program five nights week.

Women in Coaching: Perceived Barriers to Achieving Gender Equity in Canadian Interuniversity Sport
It is generally acknowledged that the diminishing numbers of female coaches is a worrisome trend. One factor is particularly alarming. Gender equity policies, despite being in place at Canadian institutions of higher learning, are failing to stop the decline because qualified females coaches are not applying when positions become available.
