Coaches Corner
Coaches Working on Primary STARSkate Certified Status (old Level 1 Phase 4) - Important Notice
Please note that once you receive documentation from Skate Canada (from your video marker) that you have passed your videos, you must send in your Coach Record Form to the Section Office to show that you have completed your coaching hours and your videos have been successful.
You are not considered a Primary STARSkate Certified Coach until you have received a letter from the Skate Canada: Alberta-NWT/Nunavut Section Office indicating this status.

Coach Registration for the 2011-2012 Season Now Available on Members Only
Program Assistant Clinics
Skate Canada: Alberta-NWT/Nunavut requires clubs/skating schools to provide Program Assistants with the training required to assist with the CanSkate program. This clinic is designed to train Program Assistants, however coaches are welcome to attend. Clinics are lead by CanSkate Learning Facilitator Leona Boyle.

National Coach Apprenticeship Program - APPLY BY AUGUST 31, 2011

The National Coach Apprenticeship Program (NCAP) at the 2011 ISU Grand Prix Final will allow coaches to observe and benchmark their skaters' performance against international standards.

Official ID Tags
If you are an official who needs a new ID tag please complete the ID request form and mail/email to the Section Office with a photo. You will need a new ID tag if:
a) Your current one has the old Section logo
b) You currently do not have an ID tag; or
c) There is no photo on your ID tag
Registration
This is a reminder to all officials to ensure that you have registered with a club for the 2011-2012 season. If you are not currently registered with a club, please contact the club where you wish to register.

The Clubhouse
Welcome to the 2011-2012 Skating Season!
Online registration for clubs, skating schools, coaches, officials, and athletes opened August 4, 2011. Registration packages and information have been mailed by Skate Canada directly to all clubs. Please read through the package, as it contains important updates including information on registration, Helmet Policy, Minimum Operating Standards and the CanSkate Medal Program.
Reminders for the start of a new skating season:
- Update the Club Board of Directors & Authorized Purchasers listing with Skate Canada by October 1, 2011
- Update the list of coaches who instruct skating at your club
- Register your club's synchronized skating teams by November 1, 2011
- Register all members within your club
- Email your updated Club Board of Directors listing with contact information to skateab.kelly@telus.net
- The Skate Canada Member Registration Fee has increased to $32 plus the mandatory member accident insurance fee of $0.65.
2011-2012 Changes to the Competition Grid
Please be advised that effective for the 2011-2012 season, Regions will now host an Open and a FunSkate in alternating years. The Regions with the opportunity to host an Open for the 2011-2012 season include Calgary, Northeast, Northwest and the Northwest Territories. Regions with the opportunity to host a FunSkate for the 2011-2012 season include Central, Edmonton, Nunavut, Peace and South.
New Test Sheets Available
Please be advised that new test sheets have been made available through the Members Only on Skate Canada's website, under "Technical & Programs". As these new test sheets are mandatory, their incorporation into your club's Test Days will ensure a smooth transition.
