Meet Kristin Aquino

Kristin AquinoHello. My name is Kristin Aquino. I have been involved with the DDRC for three years. Since then, I have attended Bow Valley College and have received my Level One Certification for Early Learning Child Care. I have gained experience working with children through my volunteer work at the Crowfoot YMCA Recreation Centre.

Now, I work part time at Gibson's Energy. I am also working at Old Navy and at the Crowfoot Cineplex Odeon Theatre. I still volunteer at the Crowfoot YMCA.

A special moment I had at the DDRC was at the Christmas Party when I was with all of my friends. I also participated in the DDRC's Inclusion Awards.

My hobbies are singing, playing on the computer, playing basketball, watching TV and movies, hanging out with my family and friends, swimming, and bowling.

In the DDRC's PACE (Participation in Academics and Career Exploration) program, I got to know all of the CRW's(Community Resource Workers) really well and I got to know the clients they supported. I became good friends with most of the clients while being in the program.

At my new job at Gibson's Energy, my CRW, Rethi, supports me on the job. She has been really supportive and encourages me all of the time.

My family has been a huge support for me since I've been with the DDRC. They keep me going when things are rough and when I'm faced with difficult situations in my life. My friends at the DDRC are also very supportive. They help keep me motivated by encouraging me that I can do anything if I put my mind to it. My grandpa is another big support in my life because he keeps me motivated. He has always been on my side, helping me grow as a person.

The Biggest Stampede Breakfast in DDRC History!

Photo Stampede BreakfastOn Thursday, July 14, 2011, the DDRC hosted its Annual Stampede Breakfast.  Nearly 1,000 people showed up for the morning, almost doubling our attendance from last year!

Kool 101.5's Goodwill Carlos was on location to help spread the word.  The Back Road Traveler put on a crowd-pleasing performance of original songs and classic country hits.  Other performers included line dancers from the community and the Prairie Mountain Fiddlers.

Starbucks generously donated lots of freshly-brewed coffee for our breakfast-goers who waited patiently for hot pancakes, baked beans, and grilled ham.

DDRC client Bernita Wong handed out free lemonade samples from her smoothie recipe book collection, and Mary Dawn Armstrong, also a DDRC client, exhibited her beautiful artwork.

This event relied on the help of over 40 volunteers. Thank you to the many helping hands who successfully fed and entertained our many guests. The event could not have happened without you!

Thank you to all of our attendees, and congratulations to our 50/50 winner Heather P. and to our door prize winner, Melanie Won!
