Over $60,000 Raised at the 2011 Vipond Charity Golf Classic!

Vipond Committee Chairman Doug Spark (left) and Committee member Rene Desmarais (right) pose for a photo opportunity at the Vipond Golf Classic.
One hundred and twenty golfers, 30 volunteers, and over $60,000* raised -- those are the numbers for Monday, June 20th at the 31st Annual Vipond Earl Grey Charity Golf Tournament.
The Vipond Earl Grey Charity Golf Tournament is the DDRC's largest annual fundraiser, and we are pleased to announce that we have wrapped up another successful year. The day started with sunshine and quickly turned to grey skies for the 1:00 pm shotgun tee-off. Golfers and volunteers endured five hours of unpredictable weather -- including sun, rain, lightning, and thunder -- to raise funds for the DDRC's Augmentative and Alternative Communication Centre (AACC).
Thank you to all of the golfers, sponsors, and donors for making the tournament a huge success. This year's tournament sponsors are: the Earl Grey Golf Club, RBC, Tenaris, First Calgary Financial, Gibson Energy, Triumph Tubular, Sandlewood Developments, Renfrew Insurance, Varsteel Ltd., Mackay.ca, Pacific Tubulars, and Buchanan Barry LLP.
The DDRC would like to thank the Vipond Committee for all of their hard work and generosity. The Vipond Committee members are: Doug Spark (Chairman), Garry Cook, Howie Crone, Rene Desmarais, Bruce McBean, Alec McDonald, John Owen, Doug Ripley, and Richard Stringer.

Jamie Law Recognized for Outstanding Service
Jamie Law recently received his 25 year long-term service ring from his employer, Canada Safeway. Jamie would like to commend all of his customers, Managers, co-workers and the DDRC support staff for all of their efforts in making the Glenmore Landing store a great place to work.
Jamie's official job title is Compactor Operator, but he takes a lot of pride in the store and is always looking for opportunities to tidy it up. Ellen Toews Evans, Jamie's Community Resource Worker, says he loves helping people and he wants to make sure his customers have a good shopping experience.
Many of his customers are also his neighbours; Jamie grew up and still lives in this part of the city. The Managers like to call Jamie "the real boss" because he has been at this location for so long. Everyone notices and appreciates Jamie's attention to detail and his determination to make the store and grounds neat and tidy. Safeway is proud to have Jamie as part of the team and looks forward to his future contributions. |
