: The truth is that our finest moments are most likely to occur when we are feeling deeply uncomfortable, unhappy, or unfulfilled. For it is only in such moments, propelled by our discomfort, that we are likely to step out of our ruts and start searching for different ways or truer answers. Scott M Peck
Amos is a quiet man. That's what people say. That is why everyone was really surprised the other day when he spoke passionately about the way a co- worker was gossiping about a colleague.
" It's not fair", said Amos.
"She speaks to you in confidence. She brings her problems to you because she trusts that you can guide her to see choices and make decisions. And you use that as bar time talk. It is not right!"
You see, when it matters, Amos speaks up.
What do you do when it really matters?
Most people have got reserves of strength they can, and do, draw on when it really matters. That's why you will hear people say "I didn't know you had it in you!"
Do you know that you have it in you?
And if you do, how often do you deliberately draw on this inner strength? How much are you consciously drawing on your inner strength to power yourself to the life you want to live?
Granted, we cannot perform at 100% all the time. But say you are currently only drawing on that inner strength 5 or 10% of the time. And when you do that you don't fail. You pull through whatever it is that caused you to pull out the stops with flying colours. Then you go back to the humdrum way of doing things until another 'crisis' erupts. So you have sporadic bursts of 'brilliance' and mostly mundane living the rest of the time.
If you have a lot of crises, you are constantly making short intense visits to the core of your strength, and you burn out quickly. Eventually the core is so badly worn out that it cannot sustain you when it matters.
But you can apply the 'how-I-think-and-act-when-it-really-matters' mentality more consciously on a daily basis. Say you upped your visits to that core from the 5 to 10% you are doing now, based on 'emergency situations' to 20 or 25%, a little improvement, by consciously travelling into your core and drawing on that inner strength to guide you choices and actions. What effect would it have on your life?
You will begin to see a more sustained 'higher' performance. And because you are proactively and consciously drawing on your reserves, you will not burn out. And as your performance level increases, you get a new, higher standard by which to measure your achievement. Keep doing this until you get to the life you really want, but have been too timid to draw to yourself before.
