: There are many ways of going forward, but only one way of standing still.
Tirus still remembers the biting cold on the streets where he spent most of his childhood scavenging for leftovers in bins and playing hide and seek with the council police detailed to flush out the street families. It was a long way back, but that kind of life does not leave one's memory easily. Time and again, when he is enjoying a well-deserved holiday at the coast, Tirus remembers.
Today you would never imagine that this well groomed confident looking individual put his nose into bins looking for something to eat. Or that he shivered the night away on a cold pavement. Tirus has succeeded beyond his wildest dreams.
Except for one small thing.
He just cannot seem to stop spending! Despite earning thousands of times more than his parents did, Tirus has no savings to speak about. He says he has had his share of going without, and does not deny himself anything money can buy, even if it means buying on credit. Somehow though, he knows this attitude is holding him back. He has come a long way, but he could go farther.
Tirus is not alone. Many people who are generally or outwardly successful will not realize their full potential because something is holding them back. Some fear, or pain, an issue not closed, a challenge not faced. They know this but somehow they are unable to move, to take that step to the best person they can be, to live the life they could live. And because they know they could be more, they are not at ease.
To figure out what's holding you back, or overcome the fear, deal with the pain, close the open or open the closed...so that you unleash your full power to design and live the life you really want, start by finding out where you are now. Which areas of your life do not measure up?
You can do this using the wheel of life assessment here. This will help you identify the specific area of your life to focus on. After you identify your focus area you can prepare a plan to move you forward to where you want to be in that specific area of your life. And through implementing that plan you will be overcoming barriers and designing the life you really want.
What's the cost of not doing so?
You will continue to feel unfulfilled, out of sorts, like a child who reaches out for a toy from the table only to find he is too short to reach it...it's right there, in full sight, but he can't reach it! Or, perhaps, like a marathoner who runs the race, only to find, in the end, that she took a wrong turn and must run additional kilometers to get back on track. Then again, you may be feeling like an imposter, a fraud, living a fake life, and wondering when you will be found out.
Find a prop to lend you some height; read the signs and follow the right route; step out of that fear, and live the life you were meant to. Take a step today to unleash your real potential. Start with a wheel of life assessment here.
