Idea to Action

 - a newsletter for people who want to design the lives and  small business they really want

Issue 57

19 January 2012

 Greetings!  ,

Someone said today that the year is no longer new...it's been almost 3 weeks already and she reckons we should be well on our way to implementing our plans.

Are you one of those people who, for some reason, never get round to implementing their plans? Who have great ideas that remain just that?

This week I look at three critical ingredients for 'getting going'.

PURPOSE AND VISION ARE NOT ENOUGH
Idea to Action quote:  All the so-called "secrets of success" will not work unless you do.  ~Author Unknown

Work

You have great ideas, but you don't act on them. You just talk, people say, but don't do. You have plans, you just don't get round to implementing them.

Why don't you just get going?

Purpose and Vision are not enough: You must put in the work.

Last week I wrote about limiting beliefs, and how they get in the way of making your plans work. Today I want to talk about self motivation.

If you do not have an inspiring motivating purpose, you won't do anything. Certainly not the things that will get you to implement your plan. Without your own motivating purpose, other people's agenda's will take over. You are like a car without fuel. It doesn't matter how powerful the engine is. It will not move.

But you also need a clear vision.   If you don't know where you are going, you may fill up your car and get it moving, but you could end up in the middle of nowhere, or worse, exactly where you didn't want to be.

Take time out every so often to check on your vision. To put it in focus. To take a snapshot.

And yet, purpose and vision are nothing if you don't put in the work that's needed, or make the sacrifices that are needed. If you don't put in the work to make your plans work, who will?

BUSINESS IDEA TO ACTION

Small Business tip of the week

It doesn't matter how small your business is. Deliver on your promises. Its the single most powerful way to sau to your customer 'I value you'. Customers who feel valued are more likely to come back, and to bring others with them.
