2 December 2010

Greetings!

This week I continue with the topic on speaking authentically, with a look at signs that indicate you may be not doing that.

I also pick up on one of last week's  tips for making a smooth transition to your own business,  with two real life experiences.

Sincerely,

WHOSE VOICE IS IT? part 2

 Best of me

Last week I talked about communicating as the authentic self.

When you are true to your authentic self, you decide what matters to you, and then set standards for yourself to live up to in the areas of life that matter to you. Sometimes you try to live up to the opinions and expectations of others, and because it doesn't come from your place of power, it is a struggle and you are not good enough in the eyes of others, and sometimes even in your own. It deprives you of critical life energy needed to live on  purpose.

How do you know you are not communicating authentically? Here are some pointers:

·         You put on your 'best face' and hide any feelings of unease.

Transition into your own business: two real life stories

In last week's article on minimizing start up costs, I spoke about some of the things you can do to ease the process of going into full time business for yourself. One of the suggestions was to starting off while still employed. This week I share the stories of two small business entrepreneurs, who did just that, although in different ways, and from very different levels.  MA supplies accessories for finishing interiors and SM is a taxi operator.  These two individuals started off under very different circumstances, but both of them had some contact with the business they eventually developed, before they went full time

MA was a high flying executive until she was retrenched more than 5 years ago. During her travels  she used to buy household accessories and then sell them to individuals upon her return.  When the salaried job was no more, she picked up on this, and began to do it on a larger scale.  I asked MA to share her challenges.Read more...
