Epala: All NEW in 2011!
|
Laura Ann Toepfer and Mikolaj. |
Dear Friends of Epala;
I am so excited to share with you this month all the "new" things going on for Epala in 2011. We have TWO NEW locations. We have a NEW logo. We have NEW workshops. I have a NEW book. We have NEW horses and we have NEW partnerships.
First, I want to introduce all of you to Laura Ann Toepfer, my sister and Epala's NEW program co-coordinator. Laura Ann will be hosting Epala workshops at our Southern location.
You may notice our NEW logo features the artistry of Kathy Iverson's Scribble Horse. Kathy's work is an interpretive celebration of the fluidity and powerful elegance of the horse in motion and expression. See more of Kathy's work at www.scribblehorsedesigns.com and you must visit Kathy's booth at the Midwest Horse FairŽand the MN Horse Expo. Kathy has an incredible collection of top-of-the-line clothing embroidered with her images.
We are on-the-road March, April and May with a booth at a number of horse expos in Wisconsin and Minnesota. Look and see if we'll be in your neighborhood. We've already been to two winter expos and are happy to welcome the NEW friends of Epala we met there.
I will be one of the speakers at the Minnesota Horse Expo April 29-May 1, 2011. I'll be launching my new book, "Who Am I with My Horse. The Personalities of Horsemanship." I'm scheduled to speak on Friday, Saturday and Sunday so come say hi and make sure to stop by the Epala booth.
Keep an eye on Dr. Jennifer Oikle's website: www.unitywithhorse.com Dr. Jen is publishing a book that will include a story I've written about an amazing experience I had with a herd of horses in the desert southwest. Epala's own Cindi McGrath has contributed a collection of poems inspired by the Epala herd.
My husband Chris and I are certainly looking forward to spring up here in Norhthern Wisconsin. The horses are beginning to shed their winter coats and the bears are shaking off their winter slumber. This is a time of renewal and birth. What do you want to renew or begin in 2011? Consider Epala for yourself, for your horse or for both of you.

Epala's NEW Locations:
Southern and Northern Wisconsin
Epala will hold workshops in both Southern Wisconsin and Northern Wisconsin at our two NEW locations. Our Northern location is my NEW home! My husband Chris and I have been looking for horse property since we moved to the North. We now have 30 acres of land bordering the Chequamegon National forest which means hundreds of miles of trails. The property is surrounded by giant old white pines home to a pair of nesting eagles, hawks, owls, deer, fox, grouse, coyote, wolf and bear (all of which we've seen since we moved in!). Chris has worked hard all winter clearing trail for a forest labyrinth. Epala workshop participants will have a chance to walk or ride with their Epala horse. We are hosting a full moon blessing of the land ceremony this spring and making all sorts of plans for making this location Epala's Northern home. The Lenroot Lodge on the Namakagon River will be your host for lodging and meals and is only minutes away from our place.
Epala's NEW Southern Wisconsin location is Lit'l Bit Farm in Fort Atkinson, WI. LauraAnn Toepfer and her family (my sister) will be your host for the workshops I will facilitate at this southern location. LauraAnn looks forward to introducing her horses and sharing with you the beautiful, farm she and her husband have renovated into a relaxing and peaceful location for Epala workshops. Now you can choose - Epala North or Epala South. Check out our workshops at each at www.epala.org.

Epala's NEW 2011 Workshops
In 2011 Epala will offer TWO NEW workshops in addition to our former line up. We will still be offering Epona Introductory Workshops at both Northern and Southern Wisconsin locations. This workshop is an introduction to the work of Linda Kohanov and the Epona Approach. We will also be offering our Horse Before the Cart workshops at both locations for equine facilitated learning/psychotherapy and coaching practitioners who want to expand their horsemanship skills. We will also be offering our Horse as Teacher workshop where participants join with Epala horses to learn the art of interspecies communication, and horse "connection" that goes beyond the physical to consider the emotional and spiritual realms of interaction.
We are also offering TWO NEW Epala workshops. Horse as Healer is a workshop for therapist, counselors, and psychologists who are interested in understanding how to integrate equine facilitated psychotherapy into traditional treatment planning. I will be joined by Tamalyn White, LPC in this two day workshop that will explore the clinical implications of working with clients and horses. We'll look at diagnoses, treatment planning, facilitation, follow-up, efficacy and ethics.
If you've attended the Epona Introductory Workshop at Epala you are now ready to attend the Epona Approach Workshop where the work of Linda Kohanov's (Tao of Equus and Riding Between the Worlds) will continue to be shared. We'll continue to explore the mysteries of the horse/human relationship with an introduction to Linda's Way of the Horse: Equine Archetypes for Self-Discovery. Each participant will receive a complimentary copy of Linda's Way of the Horse book and card deck.
Please see our website for more on all these workshops, dates, locations and registration information.
