I hope this email finds everyone well on their way to progressing their horsemanship in 2011! So far this New Year I have found myself handing back the Colts I started for Parelli Savvy Club Members the end of 2010, travelled to Orange, NSW for a Clinic as well as to Mowbray Park in Picton, got rained out of a Clinic in Victoria and I will soon be at Newcastle (Cooranbong for a 3-day Clinic). Thank you to all of the students and auditors so far this year. It has been great to participate in your horsemanship journey. We have been busily- - adding new dates to the 2011 events calendar
- releasing an exciting Trail Camp to be held towards the end of the year on a million acre station in NSW
- Introducing Workshops to the schedule this year to replace Lessons.
You can read about all of these things in more depth below. You may have also noticed that I have updated my website for this year in the hopes it will be easier for people to gain the information they are looking for. Lastly, I have created a Student Story Section in my Newsletter and I encourage all of you to read and share Parelli Savvy Club Member , Cathy's story below, as well as submit to us your own stories to be added in the upcoming Newsletters. As I have at least one scheduled Clinic in each State within Australia this year (minus Tasmania), I hope to catch up with you, somewhere across Australia. | | Students at Picton Clinic Series, Mowbray Park |
Here's to Progressing Your Horsemanship in 2011! Cheers, Rob.

Lockyer Valley, QLD Clinic-UPDATE I originally scheduled a 3-day Clinic in Walloon, QLD for July 15-17 and have had several enquiries regarding this clinic but in light of the recent flooding I will be cancelling this event... And, I will now be holding 2 Fun Days instead with the goal of sharing a bit of fun and instruction to those that have had a bit of a rough go of it this year. This will be at the same location in Walloon, located in the Lockyer Valley (15km west of Ipswich off the Warrego Hwy) at the Palmerston Arena on the new dates of 2-3 July 2011 open to all Parelli Savvy Club Members at all levels. We have all seen the destruction across Australia either in person or on the news from fires, to floods to cyclones and we want to do what we can. SE QLD is a special area to me as I have family in Toowoomba and grew up at Nudgee Junior College in Brisbane after leaving my families' station in central QLD. I want to make sure I can provide the support the area needs at this time in the way that I know how, and that is through horsemanship. So, I will be donating my time and travel expenses to keep the cost of the fun days at a total of $30.00 per participant (to cover the venue hire). Please contact us if you are interested in participating as spaces are limited to 12 Parelli Savvy Club Members. See the flyer here. |

For those of you who have not yet heard about this exciting event...
EAT. SLEEP. PLAY with your horse 2011
5 nights and 6 days
1 million acres of varied terrain in the Outback of Australia
This is something you won't forget!
Have you ever been in a new environment with a friend or your partner and had to rely on each other for support and respective strengths? This camp has been developed to allow for you and your horse to experience this same kind of partnership growth. What better way to develop respect and rapport with your horse than spending a week with them at Tongo Station.
This horsemanship experience combines the Principles and techniques of Parelli Natural Horsemanship while adding a bit of purpose to it all. This education vacation will be situated on a large cattle and sheep station, over 1 million acres of land, to roam with your horse; guided by some of Australia's top Licensed Parelli Instructors Sam Caporn of WA and Rob McAuliffe of NSW.
It's not just a trail ride and it's not just a horsemanship clinic, it's both plus a bit more. Enjoy riding in an iconic bush setting during the day while practicing your natural horsemanship skills and settle down with your horse at night by the campfire with a group of like-minded students. This event will be the one everyone wants to attend in 2011! Will you be there?

This is the first story to be published in our Newsletter and we hope you not only enjoy it but feel inspired to share a story with us.
Cathy's Story
Beauwood Isabella, one of our beautiful Hackney brood mares at our stud in Goulburn NSW, spent some months earlier this year visiting a stallion at another stud and came home quite traumatised from some incidences there. When we got her home, she trembled for 3 days and it took another 4 weeks of undemanding time standing at the yard gate before I could even touch her on her shoulder.Isabella had lost all trust and confidence in people and would lash out when approached.
I knew that this situation was way beyond my level of savvy, so I called Rob for help. I was concerned that when it came time for Isabella to foal, that if she needed assistance, no one would be able to help her. Rob came to our property and spent valuable time with Isabella helping her to trust people again and giving her the confidence to be handled. With Parelli Games 1, 2 and 3, Rob helped Isabella make huge progress even in her first session.
Isabella foaled in the early hours of 1 November 2010 but unfortunately her colt did not survive the birth. We were devastated as we watched her mourning over her foal for hours. Early that same morning, a mare at a Thoroughbred Stud in Canberra had died giving birth to her colt.
As luck would have it, we had called our vet to tell him what had happened and the word had spread.Within a couple of hours, the thoroughbred colt was on his way to our stud lying across the back seat of a vet's car.
When he arrived, he was the biggest foal we had ever seen and seemed to unfold his long legs from the back of the car - hence, we named him "Spider".
Isabella was more than a little confused with the whole situation. We rubbed her dead foal's placenta over the new foal and presented the foal to her.Throughout the next 24 hours, Isabella was fantastic. She coped with strange people in her stable as well as being milked so that I could bottle feed the foal until he was strong enough to suckle from her.Being a maiden mare, the whole process must have been very strange to her.
Isabella took on the thoroughbred colt as her own and after 3 weeks of care here at our stud, they were moved by truck to the thoroughbred stud in Canberra until Spider is weaned.Perhaps one day we will see Spider on the race track - hopefully not stepping like a Hackney!
We cannot thank Rob enough for his expertise in helping Isabella gain back her trust in people. Without Rob, Isabella would have had an entirely tragic outcome to her first foaling experience.
