Although he lives in the heart of Chattahoochee Hills, Georgia, agronomist and lawn expert Ashton Ritchie, gives talks all over the country, appears on radio and contributes valuable information about lawns and gardening in general at www.Scotts.com . Now that it is mid-summer, let's channel the spirit of ZZ Top (Ashton's favorite rock group) by putting on some "Cheap Sunglasses" to enjoy his timely advice about lawns and disease and pest problems that thrive during periods of hot and humid weather.

FIORI DI ZUCCA
by Sharon Asakawa |
One of the many pleasures I have working for GardenLife is the opportunity to connect with our listeners. Cyndi from Redding said that when she heard us raving about the zucchini, Costata Romanesco; she just had to grow it. It is an Italian heirloom summer squash with distinctive ribs, mild taste and huge male flowers suitable for stuffing and frying.
Not only does Cyndi love them, but also her once-zucchini-hating husband has turned into into a huge fan. Her lightly fried blossoms are so delicious that she almost wishes she could be alone to eat them all by herself! The following is her recipe and it is true, her rich and creamy fried squash blossoms are a libidinous gastronomic experience that should be called "fiori di amore."
