Bob Reidmuller became the family "plant geek" under the guidance of his paternal grandfather who farmed in the Bronx in the 1920s-1930s. It is also appropriate that Bob is from New Jersey, the Garden State and when his family moved to California, he ran a small backyard business raising and selling ferns and orchids. As the resident horticulturist and the educational assistant at Oasis Water Efficient Gardens in Escondido, CA. Bob will tell us how to make our leggy, overgrown succulents and cacti look like new again and offer some Father's Day gift ideas. Call Sharon, John, Bryan or our guests with your questions at

Surrounded by the hustle and bustle of Philadelphia is the oldest continuously running U.S. botanic garden, known as Bartram's Garden. John Bartram and his son, William devoted their lives exploring, collecting and planting native plant species that inspired visitors such as George Washington, Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson to do the same in their gardens. Head gardener Todd Greenberg will serve as our tour guide through this historically significant, beautiful and uniquely American world of botany.
As the marketing director at Terra Nova Nurseries in Portland, Oregon, Dave Doolittle has first-hand knowledge about university plant trials, deals directly with botanical gardens and works with garden writers. At Terra Nova, one of the world's leaders in unique and unusual perennials, Dave also travels around the world collecting cultivars that are not commonly available at retail garden centers. He will tell us about the latest trends in horticulture and the hot, new cultivars to include on your must-have plant list. Call Sharon, John, Bryan or our guests with your questions at 1-866-606-TALK (8255).

Did You Know?

This Sunday we will be wishing the happiest of Father's Day to 66.3 million fathers in America. Sonora Dodd is known as "the mother of Father's Day" because she wanted a special day in 1910 to honor her father, William Smart, a widower and Civil War veteran who was left to raise his six children. But the first presidential proclamation honoring fathers was not until 1966 when President Lyndon Johnson designated the third Sunday of June as Father's Day. Six years later, President Richard Nixon made it permanent by signing Father's Day into public law. |

Landscape plants, such as shrubs and turf, remove smoke, dust, and other pollutants from the air. One study showed that 1 acre of trees has the ability to remove 13 tons of particles and gases annually.

Bedbug Alert!
According to Congress' "Don't Let the Bed Bugs Bite" Act of 2009, bed bug populations have grown by 500 percent in the United States in recent years, primarily due to increased travel and antique merchandise.
Bed bugs are creepy, crawly and hard to kill - an emotional topic that literally and figuratively keeps people up at night. Becoming educated on the bug, its habits, detecting, treating and preventing an infestation is an effective first step to control.
Luckily, there is a solution: Ortho Home Defense Max BEDBUG Killer. Take back your bed and keep the critters from turning bedtime into bite time.
