Did You Know?
Capsaicin puts the heat in Chile peppers and provides the punch in pepper spray. It also repels deer and rabbits, but not birds. Peppers are a rich source of vitamins A, C and E as well as folic acid and potassium. Avoid drinking water as a remedy for eating a pepper too hot for the palate because capsaicin is an oil and does not mix with water. Water only spreads the heat to other parts of the mouth! It is better to eat rice, bread, yogurt or ice cream because they can absorb capsaicin. |
