Quote of the Week

Did You Know?

Here are some kernels of factoids.Behind wheat and rice, corn is the 3rd most important food crop in the world. It is also an important ingredient in  alcohol, distilled spirits, corn syrup, sugar, cornstarch, synthetic fibers, plastics, wood resin, synthetic rubber, lubricating oils, corn cob pipes, abrasives, corn oil, margarine, saccharin, paints, soaps, linoleum and gasohol.

There are approximately 600 kernels of corn in each ear arranged in an even number of 14 to 16 rows with one strand of silk per kernel.  About 27,000 kernels equals 1 bushel. After 6 hours of storage at room temperature, corn loses up to 40% of its sugar content.
