Chomp 2! ...they're baaaaack and still very hungry! Eric Imperiale from the Conservatory of Flowers and a member of the Carnivorous Plant Society will showcase some plants that will be transforming San Francisco's conservatory into a garden of "deadly" delights beginning May 7. For additional details go to conservatoryofflowers.org. Bob Reidmuller from OASIS Water Efficient Gardens will tell us about another must-have, water-thrifty plant.
For the second hour, lets talk "dirty business" with Rosemary Harris, gardener and mystery writer. She will introduce us to her main character, Paula Holliday, gardener and amateur sleuth in her latest book, Dead Head , the third installment of her Dirty Business mysteries (her first, Pushing Up Daisies , became a television series). And garden expert Lance Walheim will reach for the skies with ideas for "skyline" trees. Join John, Sharon, Bryan and our four guests on GardenLife, 1-866-606-8255 (TALK). |
Fields of Floral Dreams: The Flower Fields

Located in Carlsbad, California overlooking the Pacific Ocean, John, Bryan and I were able to travel outside the confines of the radio station last Saturday and broadcast live at this floriferous paradise.

Did You Know?
National Arbor Day is celebrated on the last Friday in April to encourage tree planting and care. It was founded by newspaper editor and secretary of the Nebraska territory, J. Sterling Morton in 1872. Other states began observing Arbor Day and by 1882, the tradition extended nationwide in schools. Today, the National Arbor Day Foundation continues his legacy and belief that "each generation takes the earth as trustees". Last year, foundation members of Arbor Day planted 8 million trees. To learn more go to www.arborday.org. 7 REASONS TO PLANT TREES - To conserve energy; may cut air conditioning costs by 15-35%
- To help clear the air by producing oxygen and removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere
- To provide havens for songbirds
- To increase home values by 15% or more
- To keep the soil in place and reduce polluted runoff into waterways
- To conserve energy in the winter by slowing cold winter winds
- To help mark the changing seasons
