GardenLife's Sneak Peeks
This week's radio show
Saturday, March 27 8 - 9 am PST 11am - Noon EST
Ever heard of the Plant Man of Alcatraz? Project Manager for the Alcatraz Historic Gardens, Shelagh Fritz, will tell us all about restoring the gardens created by those who lived on "the rock" during its military and prison eras. Besides the stories of famous prisoners such as George "Machine Gun" Kelly, Robert Stroud "The Bird Man of Alcatraz" and Al Capone, there were many unheralded gardeners who helped transform a harsh and barren environment into a place of beauty for officers, families, and prisoners confined to Alcatraz by sentence or duty. Be sure to call John, Sharon or Shelagh with your gardening questions at 1-866-606-TALK (8255).
Sunday, March 14 8 - 10am PDT 11am - 1pm EDT
During the first hour of the show, Karen Hagenow will provide an introduction to the world-famous Missouri Botanical Garden located in St. Louis. Its Buckmister Fuller-inspired Climatron is celebrating its 50th anniversary. Plantsman Bob Reidmuller from Oasis Gardens will highlight the unusual climbing onion that is a must-have for the succulent collector.
The second hour, Ken Kukorowski from Bayer Advance will let us know about Huanglongbing, a recent disease that has been destroying citrus crops and how to protect all our fruit trees. And for those of us who need trees that thrive in containers, Lance Walheim will provide us with some great suggestions. Join John, Sharon, Bryan and our guests on GardenLife at 1-866-606-8255 (TALK).
