NOTE FROM THE MAYOR

SMC logo 2011

The Superior Morgul Classic returns this Memorial Weekend on May 28-29 with another two full days of bike races and festival entertainment for everyone to enjoy.  This race was a great success last year and brought people to our community to enjoy the festivities.

This year there will be organized, challenging bicycle events that will include Saturday's Summit Criterium and Sunday's Morgul-Bismarck Road Race. The Criterium race is a short speed race through the Summit Neighborhood and there will be food vendors, entertainment, kid's activities, and music, all along Coalton and the Criterium course.  Sunday is the  Morgul-Bismarck Circuit Road Race - food vendors, entertainment, kid's activities, music along the race course on Coalton and McCaslin bringing business, community and racers together, and a guided family trail event celebrating the opening of the Coalton Trailhead.

The event will allow families and fans to enjoy numerous festival entertainment options from an exhibitor expo, food vendors, beer tent and live music.   Kids are also integral to the Superior Morgul Classic, with a dedicated kids zone, multiple bouncy castles, and kids fun rides assuring a true fun-for-the-whole-family experience.

The Community Fair is on Sunday from 3:30 to 8:00 p.m. with a live video feed of the finish from the race course on a large LED screen in Community Park, combined with a free concert featuring the Johnny O band and FACE.  The free admission event includes food, vendors, beer garden, kids activities and a festive awards ceremony for the racers.

I hope you and your family and friends can participate in the 2011 Superior Morgul Classic this year.

CONGRESSMAN JARED POLIS

The Congressman discussed the top two priorities in the Capitol:  1) Jobs & Economy, and 2) the Deficit/Debt.  Priorities that go hand in hand, Congress is working to assemble a package that takes the deficit situation toward a more sustainable level.  Other areas of focus for the Congressman include Education and Immigration.

Mayor Muckle invited those gathered to ask the Congressman questions.  Questions ranged from the concerns about the National Budget, Rocky Flats, the proposed Jefferson Parkway, the Dream Act, Economic Development incentives, Renewable energy, and Sales Taxes and more.

Congressman Jared Polis represents Colorado's 2nd Congressional District, elected in 2008 to the 111th Congress.  He currently serves on the House Rules Committee and the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee and is a Democratic Caucus Regional Whip.  He is a charter member and vice-chair of the Sustainable Energy and Environmental Coalition, the Chair of the Immigration task-force of the Progressive Caucus, and an honorary Co-Chair of Third Way.  For more information  visit his website http://polis.house.gov/

BOULDER COUNTY EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS

Public safety agencies throughout Boulder County are switching to a new emergency notification system. This system will allow residents of the county and all cities within the county to be notified of an emergency situation (examples include the need to evacuate during a wildfire, take appropriate action during a flashflood, or stay inside because of critical police activity in your area) in a variety of ways, including on their cell phone, home and work phones and by text messaging and e-mail.

You will receive time-sensitive messages wherever you specify, such as your home, cell, or business phone, email, text messages, hearing impaired receiving devices, and more. You pick where, you pick how.

ELECTRIC CAR CHARGING STATIONS

Charging Station

The Town of Superior has installed two electric car charging stations this past month.  One is located at Town Hall (124 E. Coal Creek Drive) and the other at Community Park by the ball fields (1350 Coalton Rd.).  The automotive industry is starting to move away from just gas powered vehicles to other energy efficient options.  The Town of Superior wants to be prepared for this transition and allow our residents options to fuel their electric cars.  The charging stations will be free for the summer and then the cost will be the same as paying at a normal gas pump.
