Seasonal Road Work & Street Closures

Re-painting of crosswalks, stop bars, bike lane markings has begun, & the re-striping of lane markings throughout Town will begin soon as well.

And, beginning Monday, June 28, 2010, Indiana St. between Eldorado Drive and Coalton Road will undergo reconstruction.  On that date, Indiana Street will be temporarily closed from Christy Way to Coalton Road.  This project involves milling, paving & concrete repairs of the portion of Indiana Street just south of Eldorado Dr., and a complete excavation & reconstruction of Indiana Street from Christy Way to Coalton Road.  This closure will be in effect until approximately August 12, 2010, and will also affect the access point at Bristol St.

Traffic control will be in place between Christy Way and Eldorado Drive throughout the span of the project.  Two-way traffic will be maintained at all times north of Christy Way, however, delays can be expected.  Message boards will be posted to provide advance updates regarding any delays.

Access will be maintained at Indiana St. for Christy Way and Denslow Lane at all times throughout the project.

Questions regarding closure dates, anticipated delay dates, or daily observations of project issues and/or concerns should be directed to the contractor, Taylor Kohrs, at 303-928-1800 during normal business hours.

We appreciate the inconvenience to residents that these projects may present.  We ask for your patience & caution when driving in areas where crews are working to maintain roadways for the benefit of our pedestrian & vehicular traffic.

There will be the annual parade, downhill mile race, breakfast and live music.  This year's theme for the 4th of July festival and parade is "Let's Move, America!"

The Superior Downhill Mile race is a one-mile race that begins at the top of McCaslin Boulevard and the Rock Creek Pkwy. intersection at 7:00 a.m.  This will be the 5th annual race and is one of the fastest downhill races in the U.S.

YELLOW SWEET CLOVER

Sweet Yellow Clover

Spring rains and warm temperatures have helped cover many native areas in Superior with a fragrant yellow flower.  The flower belongs to Yellow Sweet Clover (Melilotus officinalis), an annual plant introduced from Eurasia as a forage crop in the early 1900's.

While Yellow Sweet Clover is not listed on Colorado's Noxious Weed list, it is recognized as an invasive that can displace native grasses and forbs. Yellow Sweet Clover does have a couple of  strong points; it helps "fixate" or make available, existing nitrogen in the soil for use by other plants.  The population of Yellow Sweet Clover also diminishes after a few years as other plants steadily encroach on the clover stands.  Most heavy infestations are located in areas where the soil has been disturbed at one time. Town staff and contract labor are focusing control efforts on dense populations in native areas and along arterial streets by mowing and trimming.   As the clover stands are thinned out, existing native plants should quickly rebound.

SUPERIOR WATER - Read All About It!

Water Quality Testing

Do you wonder where Superior's water comes from & how our water quality is monitored?  Residents will soon be receiving in their mailbox a copy of the annual Drinking Water Consumer Confidence Report, issued by the Superior Metropolitan District No. 1.  This year's Report provides information for the 2009 calendar year about:

The location of surface waters that are the sources of Superior's water supply,

Water monitoring data, including established water quality standards & the District's compliance with those standards,

General health information about drinking water & resources for more information.

Reports from previous years can also be viewed on the Town of Superior website or by CLICKING HERE.

CODE ENFORCEMENT CORNER

Each month, the Town includes information about issues and trends in the area of code enforcement.  During the month of May, 42 code violations were identified, primarily right-of-way obstructions such as basketball hoops, RV's, trailers. Thirty-nine of these were promptly corrected, resulting in a 93% compliance rate.

This month, we want to remind residents of the standards concerning Dumpsters or roll-offs.

Sec. 11-2-170   Dumpsters or roll-offs
(a)    A permit shall be obtained prior to the placement of Dumpsters or roll-offs in a public right-of-way.
(b)   A permit may be issued if:
(1)   The Dumpster or roll-off is being used temporarily for the storage of demolition or construction material;
(2)   The Dumpster or roll-off does not block the traveled portion of the public right-of-way or any private driveway without the permission of the owner of the property served by the driveway;
(3)   All demolition and construction material is placed in the Dumpster or roll-off;
(4)   The Dumpster or roll-off is removed within twenty (20) days;
(5)   The Dumpster or roll-off is appropriately marked with reflective materials, including reflective tape at least three (3) feet above ground; and
(6)   The location of the Dumpster or roll-off does not pose a safety hazard due to roadway or traffic conditions.

Questions regarding the Town's code enforcement program should be directed to our Code Enforcement Officer, Reggie Nettles, at 303-499-3675, ext. 140 or reggien@townofsuperior.com.
