What is the Canadian Health Research Collection?

The CHRC is an online service for academic and special libraries, providing a curated and regularly updated collection of significant monographs, in both English and French, from Canadian research institutes, government agencies and university centres in the field of health and medical research.

Access is universal, perpetual, and available equally to all library users in a system or institution, regardless of location. Any item in the collection is available to all users simultaneously, and sophisticated search tools allow for quick location of items of interest.

This newsletter offers a sampling of key titles in the service. Each hyperlink in the list on the right will take you to the title as displayed in the

CHRC Preview Site

And the "Access PDF" link will take you to the document itself; this is an additional service provided to all CHRC subscribers.

The Preview Site displays only the first few pages of each title; IP authentication is required for full document viewing. But the search features are active to demonstrate the way in which a user would interact with the collection.

We hope this brief introduction will encourage you to explore CHRC further.

Highlights from the May Update

A librarian at the University of Manitoba recommended this report to us.  It's hard for us to be aware of publications from small agencies across the country, so we really appreciate it when you let us know about reports published in your area. (Our collection development happens in Halifax.)

"In 2010, food banks in Ontario provided emergency food for 3.1 per cent of the population, up from an average of 2.4 per cent from 2000 to 2007..." [Globe & Mail]
