A subscription to CEL offers Canadian libraries at all levels an easy means of improving collections and building user services without a major investment. CEL pricing is built for limited library budgets. In 2011, CEL will deliver to subscribing libraries 24/7 access to over 40,000 current Canadian monographs.
The Canadian Electronic Library serves hundreds of thousands of users in libraries across the spectrum:
Universities
The Harriet Irving Library at the University of New Brunswick has held a subscription to CEL Publishers' Collection since 2005. John Teskey, Director, says:
"A subscription to the Canadian Publishers Collection provides terrific value in these days of budget constraint."
Most universities in Canada hold at least one CEL collection.

Frontlist from Canadian Publishers
The most consistent demand we hear from libraries is for publishers to make their titles available simultaneously in print and online form. We're pleased to report that this demand is being met; that the list of publishers adopting this policy is growing. To date, these important trade and scholarly publishers have announced their intention to release frontlist simultaneously with print:
You'll find hundreds of recent titles from these publishers in CEL:
Athabasca University Press- Dundurn Group
- Les Presses de l'Université Laval
- UBC Press
- University of Ottawa Press
- Wilfrid Laurier University Press

New ebrary order system and business models
ebrary is the only e-book vendor that enables you to mix and match titles in the subject areas of your choice under subscription, perpetual access, and Patron Driven Acquisition (PDA) models.
ebrary's new order system, available through each client's partner site, enables librarians to select and acquire titles under any of the above models and make them instantly discoverable and accessible to end-users. The system also includes tools to support acquisition workflows, including fund codes, deduplication for electronic titles, and profiles that can be created and updated by the library at any time, with automatic alerts as new titles become available.
Also available are features to help libraries promote content and increase usage. Users may save their searches and receive automatic notifications when new titles are acquired by the library that match their interests. |
Usage Continues to Climb
With 12,000 titles in the Publishers Collection and over 25,000 in the Public Documents Collections, usage is continuing to climb as readers discover this amazing new resource.
Over 70% of the CPC collection was used in the 2nd quarter of 2010. This is an extraordinary percentage for most academic libraries, where 50% usage of print collections is considered high.
