Annual Meeting February 29th
| |
The Salina Area United Way held it's Annual Luncheon on Leap Day, Wednesday, February 29, 2012 to recognize those who give, advocate and volunteer.
Businesses and organizations were recognized based on their corporate gift, number of employees involved in the campaign, and the percentage of increased giving. Participation and giving levels were part of the award recognition ceremony. These awards were given in appreciation of their combined support of the Salina Area United Way. Attached is a list of these companies.
Marge and the late Ted Minton was the recipient of the Volunteer of the Year award. "This year the SAUW is not just honoring one volunteer, but two, to recognize our 75th Anniversary and to leap into the next 75 years of strengthening the Salina Community. This year we recognize the legacy of two volunteers and a life-time of their joint volunteer leadership and achievements. They are the ultimate example of what it means to LIVE UNITED," stated Jason Gage, 2011 Board President.
Last year's Campaign Chair, Kristy Balthazor, Assurance Partners, was given an award for her outstanding leadership in raising $1.1 million for the 2011 campaign.

S.M.A.R.T. Community Improvement Goal: By December 31, 2011, 30 business/organizations will have become members of the Ready Rating program and committed to improving their level of preparedness. The number will increase to 90 by the end of 2012.
The NCK chapter of the American Red Cross was invited by Saline County Emergency Manager to present information regarding Ready Rating while he presented a risk management planning session. The presentation was made to a social service agency that serves individuals with special needs throughout the Salina area. Saline County Emergency Services is in the "thinking" stage of putting together their business continuity plan and faces several unique challenges when serving their clients in an emergency. Saline County Emergency Services were relieved that a tool like Ready Rating was available to them to use and was free of charge. They anticipate utilizing it as a way to help them focus their planning and address the challenges that their agency faces.
