Tropical Audubon Society

Dear Governing Board members,

On March 11, you will have to decide whether to extend the contract deadline with the United States Sugar Corporation to purchase critical lands for the benefit of Everglades restoration and the people of South Florida. I urge you to extend this deadline to ensure we have the opportunity to move forward on this landmark acquisition.

Restoring water flows through the Everglades is of utmost importance to reestablishing the abundance of wildlife once found here, recovering thousands of acres of habitat and benefiting Florida and National Parks- and ecosystem-based economies. In the southern Everglades, Biscayne Bay and Florida Bay are dependent on receiving clean fresh water, and this acquisition is the best way to achieve this end.

During these critical moments in the process of Everglades restoration, your continued support is needed more than ever to ensure that future generations can experience and enjoy the abundance of America's Everglades, as well as rely on a dependable water supply.

Sincerely,
