What Are Students Saying about the MET Courses?

"Tom, My thanks to you. After several decades and literally hundreds of cont. ed. 'stuff' it's great to reel in the reigns and add a bit of structure to the 'eval and treat' routine.

Have treated 3 cervicalgia patients thus far with the MET -- great success -- even when one patient's primary pathology was a torn rotator cuff.

Good stuff Maynard! Loved the humor -- hopefully I wasn't the only one laughing.... Take care. Looking forward to M1."

Your Golf Ball Went Where ???

Whether you are a pelvic floor specialist or not, a tender anterior pubic bone, (usually more tender on one side than the other) is a sign that there is levator ani muscle dysfunction / trigger. You may also find that the coccyx is tender as well. If the patient should mention that it feels like they have a golf ball . . .

Email Questions

Q:  Hi Tom, Recently broke the 2nd metatarsal in my left foot. I'm walking in a boot and it is certainly messing with my gait. Hips and adductors are sore where they normally aren't. No running for 6 weeks, though I'm hoping I don't wear the boot that long. Was thinking it might be a good idea to come in and check the alignment at some point, probably once the boot is off. Your thoughts?

K. P., Patient / Triathlete

A:  Hi Kevin, My suggestion is to wear the thickest tallest "Frankenstein" boot you can on the non-broken foot. That way it minimizes the frontal plane inequity with less room for adaptation to the temporary change in leg length. A big old hiking boot with large heel / sole might be very helpful and preventing some adaptive issues.

"I received your dvd today and am thoroughly enjoying it! The quality is excellent with great animations.  The sign of a great teacher is the ability to take info that can be confusing at times and make it seem simple and readily useable in the clinic. You have definitely achieved that goal."

Our Seminars

Thomas K. Ockler, PT

For those of you who have taken Muscle Energy courses before and are still struggling...  Or if you have never taken a Muscle Energy course because you heard it was too hard... These are the courses for you.

Muscle Energy Technique is one of the most effective and valuable manual techniques for the identification and correction of somatic asymmetry and hypomobility. These techniques can be used immediately to find and correct the causes of all types of pain. These are not cover up procedures, but rather techniques that cure the problem with dramatic results.

Unlike manipulative therapies, which presume joints are stuck out of place by some physiologic glue, the beauty of Muscle Energy is that it works through an evidence-based neuro physiologic principle.  And that is
the joints are held out of place by muscles that have too much tone.

In his 34 years of clinical practice, Tom Ockler P.T. has had extensive teaching experience throughout the United States, Canada, England and Australia.

As a teacher, Tom has earned the nickname "The Patch Adams of Physical Therapy" due to his unique style of injecting humor into complicated subjects. He has developed teaching methods that explain very complicated subjects in easily understandable formats. His five teaching manuals have been hailed by students as the "most user-friendly and useful Muscle Energy manuals ever."
