What Are Students Saying about the MET Courses?
Tom's average rating for the last M1 class at the University of Michigan was 4.98 / 5.
"I recently took your M1 course in Troy, NY and am really liking how these METs are helping with my clinical practice, so thank you! Case in point, I am working with a grad student who was a collegiate runner and of late has been having some posterior tibialis problems, and I realized that her symptoms are always worse when her R SIJ is stuck but that she enjoys far less symptoms when she maintains her symmetry. I would have done a screen of the pelvis before, but now I am even more aware of those connections!"

PT tip of the month
"Scratch Your Head and Punt"
Patient referrals come from a variety of sources; past patients, doctors, friends, etc. Over the past few years, I have been receiving an increasing number of referrals from you . . . my colleagues. When a patient presents to you, as a therapist, and after multiple attempts, you are scratching your head, you have been gracious enough to refer them to me. I thank you and appreciate your confidence and I also realize the heat some of you take for referring outside your practice. It is after all, the ethical and compassionate thing to do. A few weeks ago a 51 yr. old male patient was referred by a physical therapist (actually after having seen two therapists at different practices) within 3 - 4 months for progressive pelvic floor pain.

Q: Hi Tom, I am interested in attending the (M2) thoracic/rib course. I have been seeing more and more upper thoracic dysfunction patients over the last few years and would like to get some more tools to treat these patients. I have been practicing for 25 years and I just want to make sure this course would have some more advanced content for me. It may be my ignorance, but when I read about the breathing component I think more about the older client that may have COPD, or more advanced scoliosis patient. I could use a refresher on the cervical/thoracic muscle energy course, would you advise this, or just move right into the (M4) thoracic/rib/breathing course?
Barb S., PT
A: Barb, I would recommend the M2 over the M4 at this stage. M4 drops the cervical spine out and includes more core stabilization by facilitation of what I call deep abdominal core breathing and stabilization.

"I received your dvd today and am thoroughly enjoying it! The quality is excellent with great animations. The sign of a great teacher is the ability to take info that can be confusing at times and make it seem simple and readily useable in the clinic. You have definitely achieved that goal."

Our Seminars

For those of you who have taken Muscle Energy courses before and are still struggling... Or if you have never taken a Muscle Energy course because you heard it was too hard... These are the courses for you.
Muscle Energy Technique is one of the most effective and valuable manual techniques for the identification and correction of somatic asymmetry and hypomobility. These techniques can be used immediately to find and correct the causes of all types of pain. These are not cover up procedures, but rather techniques that cure the problem with dramatic results.
Unlike manipulative therapies, which presume joints are stuck out of place by some physiologic glue, the beauty of Muscle Energy is that it works through an evidence-based neuro physiologic principle. And that is
the joints are held out of place by muscles that have too much tone.
In his 34 years of clinical practice, Tom Ockler P.T. has had extensive teaching experience throughout the United States, Canada, England and Australia.
As a teacher, Tom has earned the nickname "The Patch Adams of Physical Therapy" due to his unique style of injecting humor into complicated subjects. He has developed teaching methods that explain very complicated subjects in easily understandable formats. His five teaching manuals have been hailed by students as the "most user-friendly and useful Muscle Energy manuals ever."
Attend one of our seminars and don't miss this magnificent educational opportunity!
