We received such good feedback about the construction update from last month, I decided to do it one more time.
The good news is that in August, you'll be able to see the almost finished product for yourselves. I say almost finished because we might be missing a light or two, but the bulk of the work will be complete. The recent construction update indicates that the Studio II complex is running on schedule and you will see the individual studios begin to take shape. The TRX Studio, The Cycle Studio and The Mind & Body Studio will be getting their final touches like paint and lighting in a couple weeks.
A nice surprise is that the Multi-Purpose Studio is running ahead of schedule and instead of seeing it in September, it will be completed not long after the Studio II complex is open for business. New studio equipment has been ordered and most pieces have already arrived. We'll still have a few more surprises, but overall the project has gone very well. Thank you for your patience during this time of transition. We hope you think the inconvenience was worth it.
I need to thank a few staff members who have worked really hard at pulling this project together. Kari Merrill has spent countless hours designing these new studios. She has toured many other clubs, worked with our interior designer, researched equipment options and figured out a new Group Ex schedule that now encompasses 5 studios. Adam Hesyck, our Facilities Director (& musician), worked with Kari to create great sound and lighting plans that are guaranteed to make you shake your groove thing. Paul Bialozynski and his infinite knowledge of all parts of this facility, has brought many things to our attention, thus saving us time and money in the long run. I can't thank you all enough!
The last time Western decided to expand, I was living in Dallas. My husband and I left Green Bay when Western was "that blue tennis barn with the smokey bar". We were surprised when we came back to a premier health club that set a new standard for a fitness facility in the community. Now, our renovations, combined with an attached state-of-the-art Prevea clinic once again will raise the bar in Green Bay. I just love surprises!
Sincerely,
Susan Peltier General Manager |

Club Automation Coming to Western! | |
We thought we didn't have enough change going on around here, so we decided to upgrade our computer software system! After researching a few viable options, we selected Club Automation Management System and are scheduled to go live on August 1st.
This online system encompasses every aspect of running the club. Everything from billing to reserving tennis courts can now be handled online. The good news for you as a member is that you will have access to many features. You will be able to review your account throughout the month in real time, print usage reports for your employer, book tennis courts or sign up for special events. Need to update your information or renew your membership? With a few simple clicks it will be done!
In order for you to be able to access this system, we must have a valid email address. Please stop by the front desk and have the Front Desk Coordinator check to see that we have your current information. Then in August, you will be required to review your information and activate your online account. We are very excited about the efficiencies this new system brings to us, so please help us ensure a smooth conversion by updating your profile now. |

Tennis Tip of the Month Obscure Tennis Rules by Jon Schaff, Racquet Sports Director
The 2011 tennis rulebook has over 300 pages. Here are 3 rules in tennis you may not have known: Serious backspin: Player A hits the ball with so much backspin that in lands on Player B's side of the net and then bounces back onto Player A's side of the net where it bounces twice untouched by Player B. Who's point? Player A wins the point. The rules say the ball must be touched by Player B. This is also the one and only time Player B is allowed to reach over the net to hit the ball.
Superior control: Player A is pulled way out wide and returns the shot down the line around the outside of the net post and below the height of the net. That shot then lands inbounds and Player B cannot return it. Who's point? Player A wins the point. The ball CAN go around the net post and does not need to be higher than the top of the net. Soccer skills: Player A is at the net and Player B rips a passing shot right at Player A. The ball hits Player A in the foot and flies back over the net where Player B cannot return it. Who wins the point? Player B, the ball must go off the player's racquet. The ball cannot be touched by any part of the player's body or anything they are wearing.

THE CYCLE STUDIO
It's going to be WILD! We have chosen just the right colors and lights to make this state-of-the-art studio ROCKIN' all year long. Look for more cycling classes on the schedule late summer and fall!
THE MIND & BODY STUDIO
We created a space just for you...and we added some HEAT! Look for heated yoga classes added to the schedule.
WHY THE HEAT?
The heat warms your muscles so they can flex safely and easily. Heat also increases circulation, helps prevent injuries, and strengthens the cardiovascular system. Humidity promotes sweating, which cools your body, flushes toxins and improves skin appearance. Be prepared to sweat!
