Cardio Tennis, what is it?
Cardio Tennis is a fun group exercise activity, taught by a tennis professional, for any age and any level - even players that have had little or no tennis experience. Cardio Tennis has drills to give players of all abilities an ultimate, high energy workout. If you are looking for a great new way to get in shape and to burn calories, you must try Cardio Tennis!
Cardio Tennis is a one hour class. The class is broken down into 3 segments: 5-10 minutes of warm-up; 40-50 minutes of fun, fast-paced drills and games; 5-10 minute cool down. The warm-up gets the body moving and starts bumping up the heart rate. The fun games and drills are designed to keep the heart rate up to maximize calorie burn. The games are so fun you don't even feel like you are exercising! The cool down controls the return to near your resting heart rate.
You control the intensity of the workout. The tennis professional will help guide you along with the drills/games, but it is up to you to control the intensity. If you feel your heart rate is too high, you can slow down or stop and get a drink, even if it is in the middle of a drill. If you heart rate is too low, you can keep moving your feet during ball pick-up, or do lunges on the way back to the line.
To improve overall health and reduce the risk of health problems, we need at least 30 (up to 60) minutes of moderate intensity aerobic exercise daily. Cardio Tennis is a great way to help you realize this health benefit, while having a blast on the court!
Western currently offers two Cardio Tennis classes - Monday 8-9am and Wednesday 8-9am. You may sign up at the front desk and the cost is $15/class. If those times do not fit your schedule please, give call Jon Schaff and we will try to find a class time that works for you.
Next month - How to cover the lob.
