Effort to Become Greener
The $99 Habit
Join Our Mailing List!
Greetings!

Did you know that it takes at least 21 days to develop a good habit? That's why we have designed an interdisciplinary program to help you get 2011 off to a great start in just three weeks. Instead of focusing just on just weight loss, we are going to focus on the five components of fitness which include good nutrition, strength building, cardiovascular health, flexibility and mental wellness.

The program kicks off on Sunday, January 9th, with pre-program testing. You will be tested on blood pressure, resting heart rate, core strength, flexibility, endurance and weight. A quality of life survey will be completed and you'll be assigned a Fitness Coach whose job is to hold you accountable for the number of minutes you are exercising per week. Exclusive group exercise and tennis classes will be held just for the participants.  You will receive a journal to record what food choices you are making which can be discussed with a licensed Dietitian throughout the program. Upon completion of the 21 days, you will be re-tested to see the improvements you have made.

We are calling this program The $99 Habit.  Non-members are allowed to participate for the $99 fee. Members are required to pay $99, but will also receive the WR&FC coupon book with over $200 in applicable club savings. If you and a non-member join the program, you can both participate for one $99 fee. For less that $5 a day, you will be on your way to a new way of thinking about your health.  We want you to improve your long term health by creating habits that will be with you for life.

Have a healthy and prosperous New Year!

Member of the Month - Tricia Kriescher

Who would have thought that the ability to payroll deduct a health club membership would be what started a whole new lifestyle? Tricia Kriescher hit her all-time highest weight last February and decided to do something about it. She found out that her membership dues could be automatically deducted from her paycheck. She thought that if she "never saw the money, she'd never miss it" and became a Western member. She hasn't missed the money and she sure doesn't miss the 88 lbs she has shed since joining.

Having tried diets before, Tricia always became discouraged because she didn't see immediate results. Working out 6 days a week has allowed her to see the results more quickly and not have to resort to drastic dieting measures. She eats more moderately and is aware that one "extra bite" means more time on the treadmill or elliptical.

A young mother of two active boys, 4 and 6 years old, Tricia works out at 5:30am to make sure her workout doesn't take  away from them. Her healthier habits have helped her drop SIX sizes. Nowadays, she can't decide which is more fun - shopping for clothes or having people who haven't seen her in awhile not recognize her. It doesn't get much better than that. Congratulations!

Set Your Tennis Goals for 2011
by Jon Schaff, Racquet Sports Director

HAPPY NEW YEAR!  We had a great 2010 with all of you at the club.  During the year we saw 17 tournaments, raised over $3,800 in our breast cancer event, had a record number of summer USTA adult teams, with 5 making the state tournament and 2 teams winning state and we have many of our fall/winter USTA teams winning their divisions too.  Thanks to all that have participated in and supported Western's tennis!

A new year is here and it is time for your new year's resolutions.  You should set yourself a tennis goal as well.  Your goals may be to play more tennis, improve a stroke, improve your fitness so you move more quickly on the court, defeat your nemesis, or have your team reach sectionals.  Here are a few tips is setting your goals for 2011.

Write the goals down.  Keep this list in your tennis bag, or on the fridge, give it to your tennis coach, somewhere that you can see it and have it remind you of your goals.  The list should be specific, for example, not 'I want a better forehand' but 'To learn a topspin forehand that I can be confident in and use as my weapon.'

Make a realistic action plan.  We all have very busy lives so make your action plan realistic but attainable.  If your goal is to develop that topspin forehand, a great action plan is to take a lesson and learn the proper technique.  Then you must practice the shot.  Set aside at least one hour per week when you only hit forehands either again with a teaching pro or ball machine or friend.

Re-evaluate your goals throughout the year.  Keep returning to your list to see if you have accomplished your goals.  If you have achieved your goals, good for you, time to make a new goals list.

Putting down your goals is writing is an excellent tool to hold yourself accountable.  Be patient but focused on your mission and you will succeed.

See you at the courts!

Western Strives to Become Greener

By now you have probably seen the signs in the locker rooms asking that you limit towel usage to two. This not only saves water and energy, but ultimately helps us keep your membership costs down.

In an effort to continue "greener" practices, effective January 1st, 2011, Western will no longer be mailing out monthly statements to members.  Becoming "greener" will not only help save our environment, it will help save us time and money. Please provide us with banking or credit card information to allow an Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT) to be implemented.  EFT's are processed on the 2nd business day of each month.  Please be aware that there may be a processing fee charged if the EFT authorization is withdrawn or the account has been frozen or closed. The front desk can provide you with the Electronic Funds Transfer Authorization form.  In addition, we would be happy to email you the form.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Wendy Evans at 920.497.1161.
