Wow, talk about a hot summer, I don't know about you
 | |
Dink says, "A man and his boogie board, can one beat the heat any better than this?"
|
but it is just about too hot to do anything except stay indoors in the air conditioning. From the looks of our sales for July, I would say that's what almost everyone is doing. Tracey and I did get to venture over to Branson last month to take in a show. We went to the RFD-TV Theater and saw the Haygoods. What a world class performance, those kids are a real exciting group. They are brothers and one sister from Boerne, Texas. If you're ever in Branson, you have got to go see the Haygoods.
It will be cooling off here in a couple of weeks and I can get back outside and take care of some projects I have been putting off. Don't wait until the last minute to get what you need for the fall craft shows. We have been out of a couple of key items lately but we have a large order that will be here in about a week. We will be well stocked once again.
Tracey's Two Cents Worth:
If you are trying to find an item but are not sure what page to look on, try the search function. It's located in the upper right corner of each page. You can type in either the item name, general description or, item number. Most, but not all items will show up when you do a search. There are a few kinks I'm still working on. I find a general name is most successful. For example, if you want to know if we carry the 50 Caliber Pen kit from PSI, you can type PK50CAL in the search box and click on "go". It will bring you to the more info. page. You'll see a link just below the picture of the item you searched for. Click on that and it will bring you right to the item! Yeah Hooray! Another example would be Fountain pen. If you type those words in, you'll get a listing of Fountain pens and applicable parts. From there you can just click the name below the item you want, as just as noted above it will bring you to the item. Give it a try and see if that helps you get to what you are wanting more quickly.

TECH TALK
Instead of doing a written Tech Talk this month, We have done a little video on how to prepare, turn and finish an inlay blank. We have a lot of customers who confes s that they are afraid to spend the money to try them since a skew is not usually their friend. In this video we will cover 1) How to glue the inlay blank up. 2) How to use the skew to cut a straight line and turn the inlay. 3) And finally how to apply a CA finish and make it look fantastic. The video is a bit long (42 minutes) and I have covered every detail that I can think of to help you be successful. As with all videos you can fast forward or go back and review any section you want. I am not a professional public speaker but I have done my best to be as clear in my instructions as possible. If this is not the way you do it and whatever you are doing works for you then please don't change a thing. This video is geared toward the beginning inlay turner who wants to take a plunge into more interesting avenues of pen turning. This is the process I used to teach Tracey, she is able to turn her own inlay prototypes without waiting for me if I'm busy with another project. She thought it was something she would never be able to do. After a few minutes of catches and blunders on a piece of scrap wood, she's no longer afraid to grab the skew and turn her inlay blanks!

FEEDBACK
I don't have any customer feedback to share with you this month. I guess last months news letter was a bit too Plain Jane. If you have questions or comments about anything this month, please send me an email at:
tim.nicholas@woodnwhimsies.comOr give me a call at 800-820-1099. If I am out of the office and can't come to the phone, please leave me a message and I'll get back to you as soon as I possibly can. We don't get enough phone traffic to warrant paying someone to sit and answer the phone, Yet.

Thanks for reading and please let me know what you think of the video. My goal is to get out in the shop and do more like this so more folks can enjoy the art of turning.
Sincerely,
Tim Nicholas Wood-N-Whimsies 800-820-1099
