| Greetings! |
We wish you and your family a very very Merry Christmas and hope you have a great New Year. We will be closed on December 24th, 25th and 26th to spend time with family and friends. We will be open again on the 27th to fulfill your turning supply needs. Please remember that we do not ship packages via Overnight or 2nd Day Express service. Try to plan accordingly to avoid any last minute blunders. Since we are in a very rural area, The Overnight or 2nd Day Express services will not usually work out for us and you will just be disappointed.
Tracey's two cents worth: Reminder - if you request items added to your order via the comment section or send and email, we need to have a credit card on file or send you a PayPal invoice. For the highest security available, we do not have your payment information passed to us so the only way to have your payment information on file is if you call us. We can keep the information on file from that point on for future orders. Also, if you add a request to your comment field I strongly suggest you include your phone number so we can call you in case there is a question, or to get your payment information.
Order notices - Any time you place an online order you should get an order confirmation/# within minutes of your order. If you do not get this notification you may have forgotten to click on the final "SUBMIT" button for your order. It does not go through until you click on the "SUBMIT" button. If you want to check, your items will stay in your basket for three days. If you go to your basket and it still shows your items, your order has not been completed. If you don't get a notice by the next day, you may want to give us a call to verify that your order went through.

| WARRANTIES....REALLY | |
Most of us have seen and heard the sales pitch which offers us, the buyer a warranty for a duration lasting from thirty days to a lifetime. In most cases the warranties are the real McCoy. In many cases, especially when we are dealing with relatively low cost items, we often hear what we want to hear and are never told what the real cost of replacement really is. The real truth is that we never asked or bothered to read the fine print. I was just asked recently by a customer about a replacement warranty offered by a competitor for a product we sell. The real story is that if I send in the broken $2.50 Dongle along with a check or money order payable to Company X for $10.00 to $15.00 to cover the cost of the "shipping and handling", the dealer / manufacturer / Company X will send me a brand new Dongle with no questions asked. I will receive it in several "weeks" in a manila puffy envelope which cost them $.89 in postage, and 25 cents for the envelope. What happened to the rest of the funds you sent them? The real answer is that you just paid $12.50 for your free replacement item that you originally paid just $2.50. By the way, you had to pay for the postage to get your broken Dongle to them so they could replace it. A perfect example: Those curly coily florescent light bulbs which cost around $2.00 each and are guaranteed for an unbelievable seven years......or better yet, "This is the last light bulb you will ever buy". Please read the fine print before you dance with joy.
We are happy to work with you if you should have a problem with an item you purchased . Give us a call and we can work it out. Realistically we should understand that pen components don't generally last an average person's lifetime regardless of what they are made of.

TECH TALK
|
In our last newsletter I had a little article about how to turn a simple yet elegant pepper mill with the CrushGrind® mechanism. I told you to pitch the PSI instructions and do it a better and simpler way. Boy did I ever open up a can of worms. I have had literally hundreds of questions and comments as to the details of how I made the mill and of course the "What's wrong with the PSI instructions, that's what I use" comments. To tie up the loose ends---There is an instruction manual out there which will give you all the details as to how to make this wonderful mill. It is put together by J.R. Beall and is called Salt Shakers & Pepper Mills. He charges $7.95 for the book which is very informative and will give you some really great ideas. Here is a link to his website where you can purchase the booklet directly from him: http://www.bealltool.com/products/turning/millbook.php. I am just a customer of his and have purchased several of his products for my own personal use. There is no kickback to me for you to purchase products from him. He just makes good reliable products and I am sure you will enjoy them. The Salt Shaker & Pepper Mill projects are loads of fun.
We have had a few less experienced customers who are having issues with turning the inlay blanks. Please use a sharp skew when turning. Do not use a barrel trimmer. to square the ends, use a universal pen blank squaring jig for best results. A CA finish is the preferred finish to seal and fill in the cracks. Sand and polish the blank with Micro-Mesh and buff with white diamond. Make sure that you fill the blank in completely with CA before turning. Any gaps left on the inlay including between the tube and the blank will weaken the blank and may cause a chip out. The most important tip here is to use a very sharp skew in the traditional manner. In other words "ride the bevel". If this term is foreign to you then you are probably out of your turning league with these blanks and should learn to use your skew in the traditional manner before attempting to turn inlay blanks. It just takes a little practice on some scrap wood and you'll be a pro. Your shavings should look like thin curly pigtails coming off of the skew if you are using it right. I know that they are very pretty and all, but you cannot use a scraper and expect the blank to come out unscathed.

What's New
| Tracey has a new Buck inlay blank, It is a beautiful buck with a hind view. The deer is looking back, projecting a beautiful 180 degree angle on his bow (for the Sailor types) profile of the head and antlers. The blank is Yellowheart with the body of the deer cut from Chakta Viga. His hind and antlers are cut from maple and the green patch he is standing in is from green dyed maple. The picture does not do this blank justice, it is absolutely gorgeous. We have a few ready to ship now but we are still waiting on the rest of our dyed maple blanks to arrive. They should be here soon so if there is any delay, it will be a very short wait.
We have a new kit in stock which is a combination pen with an enclosed flash drive. The kit includes a 4GB flash drive for $27.49. These are really cool and are sure to be a great gift for anyone in the need of a portable flash drive. It can be transported in your brief case or you can stand it up on your desk to keep it handy. If nothing else it is a great conversation piece. Be sure to get one for the computer user in your life, they will use it every day. You will need a one inch square, five inch long blank to make this kit with. Warning---Some tenons are required and a little common sense is necessary to successfully turn and assemble this kit. This is not a beginner kit. This kit uses the mini refill.

Coming Soon
| We have some new acrylic colors coming in next week. The solid red has been requested a lot so we have some coming in. Also, the solid black will be back in stock. Another request coming in is the pink camo, the outdoorsy/huntress enthusiast ladies will love it. Another new color by popular demand is the pearlescent white. We have a local artist here who makes some pretty amazing blanks which are cast from Polyester Resin. He has been doing this for quite a while and has some very unique ideas. His name is Tim Fulks and he will be selling his blanks on our website in the very near future. His Trade name is Uncle Tim, look for his page on our site soon. You will be amazed at the beauty and creativity in the blanks he creates. I have been turning for ten years and have seen a lot of nice blanks but nothing compares to the beauty and elegance that these project.
