A recent survey finds that 71 percent of people between the ages of 18 and 49 admit they text or talk on the phone while they drive. Nearly 500,000 people are injured and 6,000 are killed each year because drivers are talking, texting and e-mailing behind the wheel. Progressive Insurance has teemed up with Oprah to bring awareness to the growing epidemic of distracted driving. The program is called NO PHONE ZONE. If you visit www.oprah.com you can get more information and sign the NO PHONE ZONE pledge to help end distracted driving.
Visit www.distraction.gov for more information on distracted driving and the laws in your state.
If you MUST use your cell phone while driving, use it HANDS FREE (it may soon be the law)! "Every state and the District of Columbia has considered legislation in the area of driving and cell phone use.....it is now pending in the MD State Legislature.

Are you covered?
WOULD YOU BE ADEQUATELY COVERED IF YOU WERE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY OF THE FOLLOWING INCIDENTS ?
- A jury awarded $900,000 to the estate of a 43 year-old father whose death resulted from an automobile accident. The award was based in part on the father's future earning potential.
- At an end of school swim party, a 16 year old dove and hit his head on the bottom of the pool. He became a quadriplegic, and the case resulted in a $1.5 million settlement against the homeowner.
- While helping paint, a 40 year old friend broke his heel after a downspout he was holding broke away from the house. Although he was found only partially responsible, the fall cost the homeowner $1.2 million.
In order to better protect your family against risks you could face in everyday life, you may want to purchase an umbrella policy for additional protection. A policy, can cost as little as $200 a year for
$1 million dollars of coverage.
(Rates vary based on individual exposures and coverage is based on carrier
underwriting approval)

Own a business? Do you work from home or have a home based business? If so, do you have proper coverage?
Many home businesses forget the coverage they may need for their office equipment, computers or inventory. Also many policyholders forget the need to address business use for a vehicle. Most home based businesses can be covered under the homeowners policy, but need to be added by endorsement with an additional premium. Also, a very important reminder; a business that is in a detached structure would exclude that structure from the homeowners policy. There are many facets that make running a home business (or operating a business from your home) attractive and economical. Do not forget to call us to review what the added insurance issues could be. No one wants a false sense of security......let us help you determine what the proper solution would be to make sure your home-based business is insured properly! We are only a phone call away.
