Networking Tip #22
 Tree Frog
Dress Up, Not Down
It is easy to take off a tie, but you don't want to be remembered as the only man at an event without one! For women, a well-tailored suit (with pockets) can get you through a wide range of situations. Remember, since the dot-com bust, casual Fridays are now on Saturdays!

Buy Veteran Campaign

Dear Chamber Members,

With over 3 million veteran-owned businesses across the United States, the veteran business community represents a significant portion of our business community. This past year the National Veteran-Owned Business Association (NaVOBA) launched the Buy Veteran campaign. Buy Veteran unites the veteran business community in a single consolidated location at www.buyveteran.com. This site serves as a touch point for veteran-owned businesses to connect with one another as well as the government, corporations and Americans who want to Buy Veteran. Veteran-owned businesses can list their business for free on the website.

NaVOBA has over 60 corporate members (www.navoba.com/f1000.aspx), who proactively seek out veteran-owned businesses to use as suppliers. NaVOBA uses this site to link corporate members to veteran-owned businesses across the country.

Because some of our members may have military service, we wanted to ensure that you were aware of this campaign and resource.

Regards,

Chamber Leadership

"Tips for Social Media"

Social Media and the Workplace

Do you connect with your co-workers, business associates or clients via social networks like Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn? How about your boss? The new 'water cooler' in the office these days is social media! It is important to know social networking protocol when it comes to discerning what is allowed at work and what you should share about work. Inappropriate information on social network sites can get you in trouble or worse, cost you your job or a client, especially if you do it from work.

You may choose not to connect with those persons that are work-related and have your post privacy settings set for friends only on Facebook, your tweets may only be sending out to your followers and your LinkedIn status updates may only show to those you are connected with. However you don't know who your friends, followers and connections know and who they may share with. And if you post company business, good or bad, it can possibly be picked up by reputation management sites such as Google.com/alerts or Tweetbeep.com which your boss, HR department or even a client may have an account set up on to be alerted of certain key words and news about their company.

We live in a social networking society where so many of us share our lives online and sometimes get carried away and forget that what we say and share stays on..... Facebook, Twitter, YouTube!
