Melbourne Seeks Chief of Police Candidates

 

Candidates for the position of chief of police for the City of Melbourne are being sought by way of a nationwide awareness campaign. The effort is to conclude on July 29, followed by a candidate review process.

 

The person to be selected by City Manager Jack Schluckebier later this year will serve as chief to lead a law enforcement agency with 239 employees, 168 of them sworn officers. 

 

The department is currently under the direction of Chief Steve Mimbs, a thirty-year veteran of the department. He was named as acting chief in April of 2010 to replace Don Carey, who was on medical leave prior to retirement. Mimbs was subsequently named as chief in a time-limited capacity, and is expected to become a candidate for the permanent job in this process.

 

A City employment application form must be submitted by each candidate, along with a resume. Candidates may obtain application forms by request to the Personnel Division at 321-608-7801, or via email to personnel@melbourneflorida.org.

As you may know, Governor Scott vetoed funding for the GrowFL program for next year and as a result, GrowFL is working to obtain funding from alternate sources.  They are planning to keep the program going, but the future of the program is still up in the air.

 

In the meantime, GrowFL currently has slots available for this year that need to be used by September 2011.  Naturally, we would like our Brevard County companies to benefit from this opportunity while it is still available.  Take advantage of this free program and apply online at http://www.growfl.com/apply.html.
