Positive Networking is about meeting people and building your network. At events, avoid the temptation to stagnate--talking only to people you know. Remember the Positive Networking goal of meeting 7 new people at each event. This may require you stepping outside your comfort zone.

A Social Media Policy

Submitted by:  Cheri Martin
Social Media Strategist- WCN Interactive, Inc.

Your company may or may not be active in Social Media, but chances are most of your employees are. For that reason alone it is wise to put a Social Media Policy in place. Both employers and employees need to have a clear understanding of the company's expectations regarding Social Media usage and keeping your employees educated on the company's social media policy will help to curb mishaps.

It is also essential to be able to manage and monitor what is being said about your company to ensure your company brand is enhanced. There are two key elements to consider when creating a Social Media Policy; crisis management and brand opportunity. The possibility that employees can help build the company brand through Social Media is huge as they are an amazing resource, but there is also a risk involved whereas employees can unintentionally damage the company's brand.

Defining a set of guidelines will help you alleviate that risk. A Social Media Policy should outline for the employees the corporate guidelines and principles of communicating in all realms of the online world. It should also be more about what employees can do and best practices for Social Media use versus all the things employees can not or should not do.

2010 Best Year for Housing Starts

West Melbourne issued the greatest number of new single family construction permits in 2010 of any municipality in Brevard County, and in 2010, overall building permit valuations in the City of West Melbourne increased 33.3% compared to 2009, while the number of permits issued grew 10.2% from 1,490 in 2009 to 1,642 in 2010.

Mayor Hal Rose said,"A fairly good year for new housing starts and building permit valuations in 2010 speaks well of the increasing confidence new homebuyers and businesses have in West Melbourne, even as the housing and real estate development market in general continue to struggle."

City Manager Scott Morgan added, "We are pleased that home builders see West Melbourne as a preferred location to satisfy a good portion of the area's new housing demand, and delighted to welcome new home owners to our community.  The investment in new and renovated buildings for new and expanding businesses is particularly appreciated."

45th Space Wing Receives Outstanding Unit Award

Air Force Space Command selected the 45th Space Wing for an Air Force Outstanding Unit Award for exceptionally meritorious service from Oct. 1, 2008, to Sept. 30, 2010.

"We are honored to be named one of the Air Force's outstanding units," said Brig. Gen. Ed Wilson, 45th Space Wing commander. "This was simply a superb performance by the whole team to deliver complete mission success for two consecutive years. The wing has made huge impacts around the world whether by launching critical spacecraft into orbit to support troops in combat, supporting our manned spaceflight program, or deploying servicemen and women into contested regions in defense of the nation. The team should be proud of its accomplishments."

The Air Force Outstanding Unit Award is awarded for meritorious service that clearly sets the unit above and apart from similar units. All members assigned to the wing and designated subordinate units during the period of the award are eligible.
