Merry Christmas from
Chavagnes International College
|
Dear friends,
This has been a very busy term: trips to the Puy du Fou and Futuroscope theme parks, several gruelling orienteering courses over as much as 20km, a round of carol-singing in old peoples' homes and hospitals and a very successful production of Macbeth. Fabrice's healthy cooking and the boys' active lifestyle has meant that we have managed - so far - to survive the ravages of the Swine flu epidemic.
Please consider making a small donation to Chavagnes this Christmas. We are an ambitous school and we are not afraid of taking calculated risks. I think that this is part of the reason why we are still going strong in our eighth year; but the other reason is that we are actively supported by the prayers, goodwill and material assistance of hundreds of supporters such as yourself.
We have been working hard too: one challenge this term has been the introduction of Greek for the first time. Some boys are now studying French, English, Spanish, German, Latin and Greek! We keep praying too: we pray for you our friends and benefactors, and for ourselves we ask frequently for 'an increase in numbers and holiness of life' at our school.
As we look ahead to 2010 we ask you to keep us all in your prayers in the year ahead.
A very Merry Christmas to you all.
Yours very sincerely in the Christchild,
Ferdi McDermott, Principal. |
St Nicholas Day at Chavagnes
The 7th Boy Bishop at Chavagnes, Paul de Guibert, with various choristers and servers.
The town council had placed a sleigh and some other Chritsmas decorations right in front of the College gates, so this made the perfect Christmas photo opportunity. |
Macbeth for Christmas ...
With sterling performances from Mr Haydon (Macbeth) and Maggie Boyles (Lady Macbeth), the boys of Chavagnes, together with girls from La Bonne Nouvelle performed a superb version of Macbeth with very few cuts.
Among the boys, particular credit goes to Dominic O'Leary who played a very dignified Duncan, David Mobberley as a rather saintly Banquo and Patrick Adams as a very powerful Macduff.

Three new books
A History of the Spanish Heterodox, translated by former Chavagnes teacher, Eladia Gomez-Posthill. An exciting tale of the Church's triumph over witches, gnostics and arians.
Spiderface, a cruelling funny novel about a boy with a face like a spider (for adults and mature teenagers). By Wil Mobberley, the parent of one of our pupils. A kind of cross between Spike Miilligan, Terry Pratchett and Franz Kafka.
Reflections. Poems by Ruth Asch, one of our founding team, newly published by Saint Austin Press.
