The theme of World Health Day is 1000 cities - 1000 lives, and the World Health Organization is encouraging us to celebrate the global health heroes in our city.

Here are some local heroes we've honored with our Advancing Global Health Award:
  • Dr. Gordon Perkin, co-founder of PATH
  • Ralph Munro, former Washington Secretary of State
  • Dr. Sherwin and Jerri Shinn, Founders of International Smile Power Foundation
  • Dr. Bill Foege, global health pioneer
Who are your global health heroes? Send a comment to our Facebook or Twitter page, or e-mail us your stories at connect@seattlebiomed.org. You may also submit your story via video feed to the World Health Organization and help them collect stories from 1000 cities - 1000 lives. And check out Ken Stuart's post about World Health Day in today's Xconomy.
Honoring Seattle in our Name
World Health Day seems an appropriate time to remind everyone about our new nickname, Seattle BioMed. Seattle BioMed celebrates our pioneering presence in Seattle's global health community, and makes saying our name - and remembering what we do - a little easier. While our full name - Seattle Biomedical Research Institute - remains unchanged, we're using Seattle BioMed as our shorthand version. Read more about us, and get a glimpse of our new brand elements at seattlebiomed.org.
The Gift of HopeThe Gift of Hope
Now through Mother's Day, Seattle BioMed invites you to give the gift of hope. Because we believe that every mother deserves a healthy child - and every child deserves a healthy mother - our Gift of Hope Campaign is designed to help improve women's and children's health and to give you the opportunity to give a meaningful Mother's Day gift.
