Arbor Day, May 4, 2012.
Trees & Forests Matter to Everyone.
Slated for release on March 2, 2012, Dr. Seuss' The Lorax is a 3D adaptation of the classic tale of a forest creature who shares the enduring power of hope. The book - and now the movie - show how important it is to take care of trees and forests, which provide many public benefits: clean air and water, wood products we use every day, wildlife habitat and recreation. The message of the movie helps point to the importance of sustainable forest management. The story ultimately offers a message of hope and renewal, restoration and responsibility. The takeaway is that trees and forests matter to everyone, and we must use and care for them sustainably.
Trees matter so much, that we have a holiday set aside to recognize their contribution to the environment: Arbor Day. In Vermont, we celebrate Arbor Day on the first Friday in May--Friday, May 4, 2012. This is the ideal time of year to roll up our sleeves and plant trees. As these trees grow, they will pay us back.
We have several opportunities for your school, class and students to get involved in the celebration; from creating a piece of tree art to school wide celebrations. Join Vermont schools and students from across the state in the celebration. Here are the ways we can help. Learn more |
