Pest Highlights: The Purple Traps, Ace Beetle Detectives and Don't Move Firewood
We know you've seen them! So what are they? The purple traps are placed in ash trees across the state to determine if emerald ash borer (EAB) is around, a nasty insect killing millions of ash trees. The beetle hasn't been found in VT, but we want to find out if it's here. The traps are purple because the beetle likes it - it also has an oil to attract them. They pose no risk to us, but beware they are sticky! Learn More
Be an ace beetle detective. Start searching today. You can help us stop the spread of the beetles - and the devastation to our forests, parks and neighborhoods - by searching your community for signs of beetles. Learn More about this effort from APHIS to get people out looking at trees.
EAB and other invasive pests love to hitchhike on firewood. Don't risk starting a new infestation. Buy firewood where you burn. You have the power to save trees! |
