National Legislation to Support
Below is a list of bills in congress that will help make our communities greener if they are passed. Show your support by contacting VT's congressional delegation.
 
Climate Bill (H.R. 2454 and S. 1733)
Three provisions to support:
  • Tree Planting Program (House Sec. 205, Senate Sec. 167) - Energy Conservation through Trees Act
  • Making It Green (House Sec. 295, not in Senate bill) - G.R.E.E.N. Act 
  • Carbon Offset Registry (Sec. 733) - Allows "urban tree planting and maintenance" as an eligible carbon offset expense

Green Communities Act (H.R. 2222 and S. 3055)
Would fund 80 pilot communities to undertake community greening initiatives. 
 
Urban Revitalization and Livable Communities Act (H.R. 3734) Will rehabilitate and improve urban parks and recreational infrastructure and revitalize communities.

Small Business Environmental Assistance Act (H.R. 4509 and S. 3279) Provide grants to state forestry agencies to enable communities to undertake tree-planting projects.

Many trees and shrubs in the home landscape receive adequate nutrients from the soil, decomposing leaf and twig litter or from lawn fertilizers routinely applied around them.

Compared to other lindens, silver is more heat and drought tolerant,and offers higher pest resistance. The silver undersides of the leaves are very attractive.

Invasive Pest Surveys
Help scout for two destructive invasive pests: EAB and ALB. Surveys will occur on: 8/2 in  Rutland & 8/13 in St. Albans Contact: Rhonda MaceTREEage of South Burlington is also on the lookout - join their efforts. Early detection is key to rapid response!

The Vermont ASLA chapter is celebrating victory with passage of licensure legislation for landscape architects.
