Welcome to our March e-newsletter.

We hope you enjoy these newsletters. This month, we discuss trends in High Definition TV including Blu-ray DVD, TV programming you can watch directly from the Internet and more on the Digital TV transition.  Please note the new D-Box Motion Control system is available for the ultimate home theater experience from your DVD movies.
Blu-ray DVD is astounding!
Blu-ray DVD

Your High Definition TV cannot look its best without Blu-ray® DVD.  Blu-ray disc offers 6 times the detail of regular DVDs plus the best sound ever including Dolby True HD® and DTS Master HD®.  We offer several popular Blu-ray DVD players at competitive prices.  Please call Dave Hirsch at 818-898-7705 if your existing system doesn't include Blu-ray DVD to see how easily Horizon Install can upgrade your system.
What about the new Surround Sound?
Surround Sound
Dolby Digital® and DTS® (Digital Theate Sound) have been around for many years but now we have new "lossless" surround such including both Dolby True HD® and DTS Master HD® adding extreme clarity for your enjoyment.  Today's newest receivers from Denon add these newest features to your entertainment system.
HDTV
What is 1080p and "Full HD?"
What is 1080p and "Full HD?"
The TV ads now mention 1080p but what does this mean?   1080 is the name for video that gives you 1,080 horizontal scan lines as compared to older, standard definition TVs with only 480 scan lines.  Today's broadcasters present programs with 1080i (interlaced) lines or 720p (progressive) lines. When lines are painted across the screen continuously (p for progressive) a purer picture can be obtained than interlaced lines. 1080p can be referred to as Full HD.  Today's HD broadcasts are transmitted 1080i or 720p depending on the broadcaster.  Both look great on our new HD TVs.

But how do you see the ultimate great picture?  Blu-ray DVD is the best way offering full 1080p images.  DirecTV HD Digital Video Recorders can now also produce 1080p with their new "Video On Demand" service.  Some video gaming system can also provide 1080p for astounding clarity.  We can recommend the ideal equipment for HD reception.  For more information contact Dave Hirsch at 818-898-7705 or dave@horizonav.com.
Samsung Internet TV
How about TV via the Internet?
We have recently provided our clients with new entertainment options including Apple TV®, DVD players that can provide downloads from Netflix® and DirecTV® receivers with "On Demand®."  Many of the newest TVs available come with an Internet jack to receive direct programming downloads such as Samsung's InfoLink™ RSS.  To be ready for this latest technology, you will need a capable high speed internet system.  We can provide equipment that can optimize your home's network for this latest innovation including high powered Wi-Fi capability.
The Digital TV transition
DTV TransitionWe have many clients with cable TV systems.  One of the benefits of cable has been the ability to connect TVs to the basic cable without a cable box.  This allowed reception of the analog channels.  While one may have a cable box in the Family Room, the Kitchen TV may be on analog cable only with a box. Some cable companies are considering dropping those analog channels so a cable box would be required. The FCC recommends: If you receive cable television service, contact your cable provider about any additional components, such as a digital set-top box, that you may need to watch digital broadcast programming.  If all of your TVs are on satellite, you are ready.  Let us know if you have any questions regarding the transition for your home's TVs.  Call us at 818 898 7705.

Dave's Corner

Hi and thanks for joining me here.

In the current economy, we realize that we need to keep offering the best value for our clients.  We continue to offer solutions that are as practical as can be.  If you have existing working equipment, we can incorporate it in your system.

Last month we highlighted new Control4 products for affordable automation control to complement your lifestyle.  We've received many requests for further information and are pleased to offer this great, affordable product family.  See our link to Control4's web site or call me for more information.

If you desire the best home theater experience, are you aware of the Panamorph lens system?  Video projectors and screens have now gotten "larger" with the development of the Panamorph lens and 2:35:1 "Cinemascope" style wider screens.  This technology adds the next step for the best home theaters.  Now we can view widescreen films properly at home without black bars, something our best LCD and Plasma TVs can't do.  Call Dave at 818 898 7705 to discuss this latest development.  Is 3D next?

Sincerely,
