Dear Friends,
"The Nation's proper
goals regarding individuals with disabilities are to assure equality of
opportunity, full participation, independent living, and economic
self-sufficiency."
These powerful words,
found in the Americans with Disabilities Act, gave individuals with
disabilities - for the first time - the promise of access to jobs, to housing, to their community and even to the American Dream. As we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the
signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act, the National Disability
Institute rededicates our resolve to enable economic self-sufficiency for all. We wanted to commemorate the event by going beyond our day to day work here in office. We wanted to hear real stories from real Americans with disabilities.
So we've created Economic Empowerment - Defining the New American Dream, a nationwide video contest open to all persons with disabilities.
What's your American Dream? To own a home? To buy a car? To be economically self-sufficient? How are you working to achieve it? Paying down credit cards? Opening a savings account? We want to know!
Video submission deadline is August 13, 2010 --- just a few weeks away --- and we're counting on you to help us get the word out.
One grand prize winner will receive $1,000 and a trip to Washington, DC!
