March 2010

Dear Friends,

Our 100-city Real Economic Impact Tour rolls on, with four events coming up around the corner:

Today, March 30, the Tour stops in Detroit for a community meeting with the Accounting Aid Society and we're excited to have Julia Garcia, Director of IRS - SPEC Division in attendance.

Over on the west cost, the Tour will also participate in a press conference today with the Walmart Foundation, United Way, and One Economy's MyFreeTaxes.com.

Speakers from the MyFreeTaxes.com Van stop in Oakland, NDI's Michael Roush second from right.

On April 8, the Tour will roll in Atlanta to meet with the Center for Financial Independence & Innovation and the Georgia Council on Developmental Disabilities,  and we'll close out the month with a stop on our home turf with the DC Department on Disability Services on April 30th.

54Freedom Logo REI Tour partner 54Freedom continues its entrepreneur contest, now through September 2010 --- and we're counting on you to help get the word out. Each month, one exemplary entrepreneur with a disability will be chosen to be entered into the contest. Of those selected, one will be chosen by the public as Entrepreneur of the Year. The winner will receive a $5000 cash award, a scholarship to an entrepreneurial LiveOutLoud event, and an invitation to the 2011 Real Economic Tour Kick-Off event this fall in Washington, DC, where the award will be presented. In other NDI news, earlier this year we visited Greensboro, NC to join forces with the IDA & Asset Building Collaborative of NC and EITC Carolinas to implement the Building Assets, Promoting Choice and Community Participation for People With Disabilities curriculum --- and also introduced it to our new partner, Beyond Academics.
