Dear Friends,
There's a new roadmap to financial stability and
independence. And as we develop new tools and strategies to pave the way
towards economic empowerment for all, one thing is clear: the power we wield together --- individuals, financial
institutions, government, businesses and community organizations --- is the
driving force behind real economic impact.
Thank you for joining us as we explore creative avenues re:
the promotion of savings and asset building for individuals with disabilities
and their families. We hope you'll forward this newsletter to friends and
colleagues and encourage them to join us as well.
Sincerely, Michael MorrisExecutive Director Real Economic Impact | |
Text Connection
Speaking of getting together, people unite via new media
outlets now more then ever. Yet Facebook
or Twitter isn't for
everyone; after all, there are 4 billion cell phones in the world and only 1
billion computers. As a result, we've teamed up with our friends at Text and Shout to launch Money Mondays,
a text messaging service which provides weekly tips on saving and asset
building right to your cell phone. Sign up is easy, just text REITMM to 69302
to start receiving useful tips delivered direct to your cell phone each Monday.
Standard text messaging rates apply.

Community Connection
Togetherness begins within community. Which is why our BEST (Building
Economic Strength Together) project was designed to create learning
environments in individual communities where people learn from one another
about financial education and asset building opportunities. By uniting service
providers, veterans with disabilities, and students with intellectual
disabilities with existing financial and tax services, business startup,
financial planning, credit/debt counseling programs, and employment networks,
BEST acts as a conduit for increased economic self-sufficiency.
To lead the 2009-2010 project, we created our first
fellowship, funded entirely in-house, and are proud to announce BEST Fellow RIT
MBA Entrepreneurship Program graduate and Schwarz
Financial Services LLC, managing partner, Joshua Beal. Welcome
Joshua!

National Connection
The first stop of the 2010 Real Economic Impact Tour is one of our
favorite get-togethers, the Mayor's Leadership Academy on Asset Development For
Persons with Disabilities in Jacksonville, FL. The Academy provides a forum for
tax coalition representatives from around the country to gather and exchange
best-practices re: outreach with the goal of creating a united, coordinated
plan of action to further real economic impact, nationwide. This year, we are
especially looking forward to learning about new video technology to assist
deaf taxpayers.
The Mayor's Leadership Academy takes
place December 8th & 9th and is co-sponsored by the IRS SPEC, AT&T, Bank of America, and 54Freedom.
