Welcome to our new e-newsletter for members and volunteers of the North Pond Conservation Council.

Frog
Our mission is to identify, preserve and enhance the natural, historical and cultural assets of Lincoln Park through restoration, management, advocacy and stewardship to benefit the park, the public and the environment while providing opportunities for education and community involvement.

We are an independent, 501(3)(c) non-profit organization.

Susan Head Shot Susan Fargo Recipient of Conservation Leadership Award
Audubon Chicago Region recently awarded Susan Fargo a Grassroots Conservation Leadership Award for her eight years of volunteerism at North Pond, her development and management of North Pond's volunteer programs such as the North Pond Gardeners and The Biodiversity Program, and developing the North Pond Docent Program  training curriculum.  Ms. Fargo has been Chair of the North Pond Conservation Council since October 2000 and is currently second vice-president of the Lincoln Park Conservancy's board of directors.  Congratulations, Susan!
 
Frog Become a Frog Monitor at North Pond or the Alfred Caldwell Lily Pool
It's easy.  Learn 13 native frog & toad calls.  Establish a monitoring route, then visit your site three times a year at dusk for one hour to identify frog and toad calls.  The free training is one session on Wednesday, February 18, 2009 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at 6100 N. Central in Chicago at the Volunteer Resource Center of the Forest Preserve District of Cook County.  For more info or to register, please e-mail Volunteer@LPConservancy.org
Dragonfly Become a Dragonfly Monitor at North Pond or the Alfred Caldwell Lily Pool
Fascinating. Prehistoric. Cool.  Dragonflies are fun and challenging to monitor.  Free training is one session on Saturday, April 25, 2009 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Nature Museum.  Visit your site six times between May and September for one to two hours per visit and submit your data. Become a Lincoln Park Docent
Spring docent training begins April 4, 2009!
Choose from one of the Lincoln Park Conservancy's three park sites: the Alfred Caldwell Lily Pool, the Lincoln Park Conservatory and Gardens, or the North Pond Nature Sanctuary. Training is six consecutive Saturday mornings through May 16th from 8:30 a.m. to Noon.  Volunteer docents foster a greater appreciation and understanding of our park sites by providing public and group tours and answering general questions. You will receive training from area experts on interpretation, park history, pond ecology, animal and plant life.  Time commitments vary by site, but are between four to nine hours per month from May to October (12 months for the Conservatory).
