Saluting Our Troops on Veterans Day
The City of La Plata will honor our military veterans next month. On Saturday, November 6, the La Plata Veterans Day Parade will proceed through town starting at 11 AM.
On Thursday, November 11, a Veterans Day Luncheon will be held at the Silver Rails Event Center. Running from 11:30 AM to 1 PM, the luncheon will be free and open to local veterans and one guest each. Please RSVP to Tabitha Sawyer by calling 1-660-216-8955 or e-mailing tsawyer@atsu.edu.
Following the luncheon at 1:30 PM will be a Veterans Day Tribute and Celebration of the USA, at the La Plata R-II High School Gymnasium. No RSVP is required.

Amtrak Schedule Changes This Month and Next
Effective Monday, October 18, the Amtrak Southwest Chief schedules through La Plata have changed. Eastbound train 4 (Los Angeles - Chicago) will stop in La Plata at 9:55 AM (eight minutes later than previous). Westbound train 3 (Chicago - Los Angeles) will stop in La Plata at 7:36 PM, 30 minutes EARLIER than previous.Starting Monday, November 8, the California Zephyr (Ottumwa, IA) schedule will change as follows: Eastbound train 6 (San Francisco / Emeryville - Chicago) will arrive Ottumwa at 9:09 AM, 40 minutes EARLIER than present. Westbound train 5 (Chicago - San Francisco / Emeryville) will stay on its present time of 6:53 PM. Amtrak schedules at Quincy, IL will remain unchanged.
