We have lifted the three-night minimum stay requirement. Even better, a special rate of $85 per night for rooms is available for this
event, or $150 for all 3 nights (Thu, Fri, Sat, Dec 31-Jan 3). (Sorry,
but the four Luxury Themed Suites are all sold out for this event.) But you must call
877-459-5900 for this special rate. You cannot get this rate by
booking online. Our normal affinity discounts (AAA, AARP, NARP, military, etc.) can be used on booking rooms for this event.
Your stay with us on December 31 will include an invitation to our New Year's Eve celebration! Enjoy meat and cheese hors d'oeuvres,
games, swimming till midnight, party favors, two complimentary drinks
and champagne at midnight on us. Beer and wine will be available for
purchase as well.

Silver Rails Memorial Library to be Dedicated; Gallery Coming Soon
As part of our New Year Celebration, we are pleased to announce the dedication of the Silver Rails Memorial Library on Saturday, January 2, 2010. The Library will serve as a grand repository of railroad literature through the years, which we hope will be a resource to the public for generations to come. The Library will be dedicated to the memory of select individuals without whose support the development of Silver Rails and the Depot Inn & Suites would not be possible.
In the coming months, Silver Rails Memorial Library will stand alongside the new Silver Rails Gallery, in a venerable historic building on the La Plata town square. Silver Rails Gallery will be a permanent space to display
significant works of art (paintings, photographs, sculpture, artifacts, and
multimedia works) in the canon of railroad artistry. Proceeds from
sales of original art, prints, and other gifts will benefit the
American Passenger Rail Heritage Foundation.
The Library and Gallery will operate under the stewardship of Bob Cox, proprietor of Railfan's Friend, President of Friends for La Plata Preservation (FLPP), and Caretaker for the La Plata Amtrak Station.
Please note that the Library and Gallery are not yet open to the public. Stay tuned for further details about their respective openings, expected in Spring 2010.
Our friends at Internet radio talk show Let's Talk Trains will broadcast live from the Silver Rails Memorial Library dedication on January 2. (The Library will be dedicated in part to the late Richard Hamilton, founder of Let's Talk Trains.) The show will run from 12 noon to 2 PM Central Time (10 AM to 12 noon Pacific Time). Thank you, host Nathan, for once again bringing the show to La Plata.

Silver Rails Country: Spotlight on Heartland Dairy
All year round, there are plenty of things to do and sights to see in Silver Rails Country. One of our personal favorites is to tour the modern Heartland Dairy facilities located less than an hour from La Plata. Heartland will be pleased to take you on a complimentary narrated van tour of the massive dairy farms. Budget a few hours to take in their extensive operation!
Simply inquire at the Depot Inn & Suites front desk for directions, or to arrange modestly-priced transportation to and from Heartland.
